This title can fit many conditions that interfere with our normal energy system , including numerous medical/physical ones, hence thorough assessment is required. Much overused, often unhelpful or anti-helpful, in my experience every “depression” is unique to the individual and made of a complex of factors and aspects that need careful sorting out. A pervasively under-felt stress reaction, it has many mental components, conscious and not, and often immediate environmental/behavioral ones. Usually just the process of therapeutic exploration brings some relief over ‘baseline’: empowerment in specific areas of living is the main direction. "Oppression" seems a more fruitful concept to apply.

Depression takes many forms. One can be: blue, listless, hopeless, sad, dispirited, nervous, fatigued; be defeating oneself, in a funk, etc. It can include: feelings of helplessness, hopelessness, loss of interest in daily activities; appetite, weight or sleep changes; anger, irritability, loss of energy, self-loathing, recklessness and so on. But it’s also unique to each of us. Help for any of this is best with you being in charge. My job as your therapist is to listen and follow as fully as I can what way you want to change. My approach will be focused on how best to address the specific symptoms and situation you face in particular. Ultimately, balanced self-assertion is the real key.

Depression can be debilitating for an individual to live with as it takes over their life and is not something they asked to have and are confused with why they can't get out of the rut. As a therapist, I know it is important to start where the client is at as well as recognize when implementing strategies of change is important. My approach is to offer Cognitive Behaviour Therapy where you will learn coping skills and in a safe environment be exposed to situations that will increase your self awareness to the point you are able to manage the emotions.

Learning to talk about your symptoms of depression can open doors to a deeper and more compassionate relationship with yourself. Managing and understanding what lies beneath your symptoms of depression can help you open the doors to feelings that you didn't realize you were holding onto... feelings that need a voice, and that are screaming for your attention but can't be heard under the weight of your depression. I can help you safely explore your emotions, implement the changes you can, and learn to have a stronger relationship with yourself.
