Effective couples counselling should always centre on the emotional bond and hidden, problematic communication between two people. By establishing the relationship as my client and using structured Emotionally Focussed Therapy techniques I am able to provide a non-blaming, safe space in which couples can learn to become emotionally available to one another and develop deeper, healthier and more secure attachments bringing about positive, lasting intimacy.

A healthy couple's relationship is often constructed by two self-reliant individuals who choose to build a shared space between them, increasingly filled with tender emotions, hopes and goals, and a dedication to the other person's growth. The necessary skill to learn is the ability to listen. Relationships often arrive in therapy troubled by the ability to communicate and the absence of a mutual understanding of where they're going. Individuals don't mature at the same pace, just like their ability to identify and share feelings develops differently. The comfort of being listened to and understood by your therapist often helps to begin the work of reconstructing your relationship.

When communication breaks down in relationships it can often lead to a disconnection from our partners which can seem irreparable. This can lead to a lack of intimacy, resentment, or mistrust towards each other. When a couple agrees to reach out for help, it shows a commitment to each other and an openness to change. When doing couples work it is a priority for me that each partner’s concerns and feelings are heard and addressed. This involves ensuring equal time for each person to talk about their concerns and needs as well as their goals for our work together. I have experience in working with heterosexual as well as same sex couples. Book a free consultation today.

Healthy relationships are extremely important to our happiness, health and well-being. In couples therapy, it is my ultimate goal to help both of you to come to a full and deep understanding of one another. Often times, couples get into disputes because of a lack of understanding of one another which can be due to time constraints, family difficulties, lack of knowledge of one another's beliefs, etc. In therapy, we will explore each person's background, beliefs and perspectives, and we will negotiate both so that they can work together in harmony. We will also look at the particular issue(s) that you have sought therapy and will work on remedying it by reestablishing an emotional connection.

Couples therapy and counselling aim to create a compassionate and dedicated space where partners can explore negative dynamics that are hindering their relationship. From a humanistic perspective, the goal is to focus on understanding each partner’s unique experiences and feelings and how these show up in our relationships with others. When we acknowledge and begin to address key issues in the relationship, such as conflict, loss of intimacy or a diminished connection the goal is to help guide couples through a rediscovery of each other, one that works to foster empathy, encourage open dialogue, and create moments of reconnection and reconciliation. I use a mix of the Gottman Method and EFT

My background in relational therapy allows me to understand individuals through the relationships they cohabit. Couple therapy may be a vehicle for growth to occur both relationally and individually. This in turn may assist in bringing you closer to your desired goals through understanding and breaking down language used in romantic relationships. Throughout couple sessions, I lean towards emotionally focused therapy, as I have witnessed its transformative effects particularly in romantic relationships.
