Are you in a second marriage, trying to deal with all the issues common to stepfamilies? I've been working with all kinds of families, and all kinds of family problems, for dozens of years. I believe that every family faces unique challenges when it comes to sorting out relationship differences and day-to-day living. Whether it's navigating parent-child expectations or meeting the needs of each family member, it can be difficult to find a path forward. That's why I offer family therapy within a biblical model, providing each member the opportunity to be heard and learn to seek the Lord's guidance individually as they relate to their loved ones. Let's work together to strengthen your family and build healthier relationships.

I believe God created us for relationship and that good relationships take effort. I incorporate listening skills, attachment styles, relational skills, and biblical principles into my family therapy. I believe that it is necessary for us to make the relationship more important than any issue we may have with a person. Forgiveness is key and possible when we choose to let Jesus heal the wound.

Aren't families interesting? A family is a system, so when one part breaks down, all the other parts are effected. If you are having difficulties with a family member, consider therapy. Sometimes you can change the whole system by changing yourself. Sometimes it's most helpful for two or more of the family to come in together. Give therapy a chance. Your Tomorrow Can Feel Better Than Today.

Family Therapy can be highly effective for treating the concern as a whole. Often I will have families come in, asking for me to see 1 member of the family, thinking I can "fix" this person, place them right back in their environment, and things will be different. Families are intricately woven and struggles with 1 member are often connected. When I see children or teens, family therapy sessions are expected and sprinkled throughout our therapeutic time together.

I provide counseling to families when an issue is affecting multiple family members. The advantage is that everyone involved gains understanding of the problem and the feelings of other family members. In turn, that enables the family to work together to resolve problems more quickly than if each family member had individual therapy sessions. I recognize that families have busy schedules so I offer after school and evening appointments.

Family therapy is important because sometimes everyone needs a safe, healthy, intentional place to be heard about issues that are happening in the home. I help navigate families overcome their challenges and find solutions that work best for their family. Parenting, sibling conflict, divorce, grief, and social or school expectations, are all common topics on family sessions.

Families who come in for counseling as a family are given a chance to work through issues in a safe environment-- where trust, respect, and honor are learned, given, and received--because the family is intentional about learning new strategies. Families learn that it is counterproductive to have an "identified patient" in the family, where one family member is "tagged" to be the only one acting out and causing family distress. Biblical and Family Systems principles may be applied to have the whole family become engaged in the positive change and nurturing process.
