Overcoming addiction requires a multi-faceted approach to treatment. Part of my job is to help you access resources and to hold you accountable as you take the necessary steps to freedom. In addition, I will help you examine underlying issues that predispose you to addictive tendencies and help you as you recalibrate your life to one that takes you in the direction of health and freedom. I will support you and encourage you every step of the way. I will also speak directly to you when and if you are not doing your part.

Discover the source of the persistent pain underlying your attempts to avoid or dampen that discomfort. Uncover your personal and innate signals, finding ways of responding to your experience that leads to a life that works better for you and those around you. Develop means and methods of recognizing what will solve the problem and resourcing solutions that lead to a more fulfilling life rather than adding to the hurdles created by addiction.

When we think of addictions we usually think of alcohol or drugs. There are numerous other experiences which we can be addicted to. An underlying compulsion is evident and present in all forms of addictions. Dr. Jefrey Schwartz, at the University Of California School of Medicine, has worked very successfully with obsessive compulsive disorder patients, through the use of Mindfulness Training Cognitive Therapy. Brain MRI's are used as measurable outcomes of treatment. This method has been found effective for many other compulsions including addictions. I have incorporated Dr. Schwartz' method into my treatment and is now available to you. Call me for an appointment.

Those with addictions can find hope as we work in conjunction with addiction programs, 12 step support, and doctors who may prescribe meds. Your life goals, career, faith, and family relationships are all affected by addictive patterns. There is hope! We can support your sobriety together. I have worked in rehab for recovery from narcotics and from compulsive eating disorders. Christian faith is a mighty resource, and through my seminary training, I have learned the power of God to heal unwanted stuck thoughts and behaviors with resulting better emotions. You can leave those patterns, grow, gain support, and live freely.

Addiction is a mental health condition and I treat addiction by a multi-pronged process predominately from a Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) model. I help my clients understand the reasons they use a substance or engage in an addictive behavior, teach them skills regulate their emotions and tolerance distress that might otherwise lead them to engage in their addiction, and address any underlying issues that contribute to their addiction. I also help clients with with concerns about their substance use or compulsive behavior to avoid developing addictions.

While most treatment approaches to addiction include 12 step programs, rehabs, and now sober living houses, Grey Matters International, Inc. provides a wildly successful alternative to traditional models of addiction treatment----that keeps the brain in mind. That is, talking to the conscious brain while the primal brain is deciding things even before you are consciously aware? Well, that is the problem to solve in addiction. We have the solution utilizing a new cutting edge neuroscience-centered brain rebalancing system. Contact kevin@kevinflemingphd.com or call 877-606-6161.

When people think about the word addiction, the most common thought is about drugs or substance. But we can experience addiction to anything, including pornography, computer games, shopping, gambling, even things that normally represent positive things such as exercising or working. People suffering from addiction may have a brain chemistry that is hardwired that way. But sometimes addictions come about as a maladaptive response to a trauma or an event in a person's life. Part of therapy is to help determine the cause of the addiction and then to find the appropriate modality to treat it.

Coming to grips with our attachment to a substance or process is often the most difficult part of an addiction, and what makes it even harder is that we too often feel like we have to take that step alone or take it because someone else wants us to take it. Counseling offers a way to acknowledge the origins of addiction and its impact on our lives on our terms, so that we can choose how we want to live moving forward.

I facilitate groups of men and women who are in local treatment centers at Wind Horse Hill Healer's Retreat and Training Center where we have the opportunity to work with horses in a beautiful, relaxing Hill Country setting. We also provide programming for families with an addicted member. Learning ways to deepen insight, improve communication, set strong flexible boundaries and enjoy leaning into a morning or afternoon of self care proves for an empowering opportunity for growth and healing.
