I have a background in ministry and a strong personal Christian faith as well as Biblical training. Looking at life from God's perspective provides a basis for growth and change. Change is hard. Our brokenness runs deeper in us than we wish, but so does our capacity for growth and change. My Christian perspective gives me a helpful frame for grappling with and understanding this tension: It gives me great compassion for how challenging it can be (due to our brokenness) to grow and change, and it also gives me great hope for each person's innate ability to change (because of God's protecting within us the capacity for healing). I have been a Christian for over 25 years. I attended seminary and have a worldview that is shaped by the Bible and my experiences personally. I validate each client’s worth, regardless of differing views, beliefs, or lifestyle. I recognize the grace that has been provided to me and extend compassion to others as a result. I know firsthand the importance of faith in the midst of struggles. Having worked in hospital systems for many years, I find that one of the greatest joys of private practice is to be able to incorporate my Christian faith and background into my work with individuals who are recovering from difficult experiences. Together we can pray, seek out God's word in relation to present day struggles, and even ask big "why" questions. It is an honor when I am allowed to share in the faith journey and healing of others by welcoming Jesus into our work together.

In the gospel of Matthew, Jesus states “If your eye is sound, your whole body will be full of light.” This simple statement guides my approach to counseling. The light exists, and we sometimes need help to improve the soundness of our mental and emotional “eyes” to let more light into our personal awareness and influence our feelings, thoughts and behavior. I respect the sacred and unique way that each person experiences a relationship with God, especially during periods of mental, emotional, or relational distress. From my own study of the Bible, I am continually impressed by the applicability of Christian values and truth to issues of mental, emotional, and relational health.
