It is a buyer-beware market for specialized services, such as counselling, and I want to share some things about myself that will help you feel confident in entrusting to me the well being of you and your family.

I am a Certified Canadian Counsellor with 25 years of training and 27 years experience working with children, youth, and their families. My education includes two college diplomas - Early Childhood Education and Child and Youth Counselling - a Bachelor of Arts Honors degree in Psychology and Child and Youth Studies, and a Masters Degree in Counselling Psychology.

I offer support to infants, children, adolescents, individual adults, couples, parents, and families as a unit. Individuals make up a couple. A family unit begins when two people unite as a couple. The marital unit serves an anchor for the familial unit. Once a couple has children, a parental unit is created but the couple also needs to maintain the marital relationship. Sometimes a couple requires support, in order to strengthen and maintain the spousal realationship. Often there is strength drawn from the marital unit (and other resources) to help support the parenting unit. However, while parents are the expert on their own children, sometimes the unique needs of children and adolescents are beyond the scope of what a parent can help with. I have worked in a wide array of child and family support settings, including child care centres, residential treatment units, and both medical model and community-based programs. Within these settings I have functioned as a one-to-one support worker for children and youth who have experienced or witnessed trauma and who have emotional, social, developmental, and behavioral challenges. I have functioned as both the leader of and part of a team that provides support for children and youth with aggressive, self-harming, and criminal behaviors. I have also provided in-home family support, assisting families who have involvement with Child Protection Services, which extended to include supporting couples in their spousal relationship.

I have an eclectic approach to counselling. My approach is highly successful as I tailor the approach, techniques, and therapeutic environment to meet your individual needs. I draw primarily on Attachment Theory, EMDR, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Reality Therapy, Family Systems Theory, and Social Learning Theory. I specialize in working individually with children and youth but extend my practice to include the entire family, including the spousal relationship. I also support adults whom are challenged by depression, anxiety, addiction, anger, trauma, separation and divorce and loss.

I also offer workshop on attachment and on challenging behaviors. I facilitate workshops at a child care centre, office or other community location.

I currently service the Salmon Arm (*WAITLIST; virtual/in person in Lake Country available), Vernon, Lake Country and Kelowna areas. I understand the challenges of trying to get to a therapists office so I offer both virtual and in office appointments. I work Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and my hours are 6:45am-3pm (latest session begins at 2pm). My rate is $140 including tax per a session (approximately one hour). My fees are covered under ASD funding for children over six years of age as well as (when pre-approved) by ICBC, WORK SAFE BC, FNHA, PHA and some employee benefit plans.
