In my practice, I use a client-centered approach to counselling which means I work in collaboration with you to form a relationship based on mutual trust and respect. From this healthy foundation, we are able to join in our focused attention towards improving aspects of your life and emotional well-being that are of importance to you at this time. I use methods which have been backed up by scientific evidence and proven to be effective in the regulation of emotions, managing negative thought patterns and treating anxiety and depression. I draw from an eclectic mix of evidence-based and strength-based therapy modalities, some of which include: Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT) and the principles of Positive Psychology. Also of importance in my practice is the awareness of the mind-body-spirit connection which is incorporated into my therapeutic approach.
For single impactful events of which you have witnessed or been affected by, I offer Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR). Such events might include: Motor vehicle Accident; workplace accident; theft, violent act or scam; natural disaster; or death/loss. The goal of EMDR is to help you reach a place of resolution and healing regarding the event, enabling you to gain a new perspective into your capabilities.
