Hi, so nice to meet you!
I’m Shannon Schubert (she/her), a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC #21591) in Victoria, BC.
What I Help With
I support adults (18+) with a variety of mental health and life challenges, including:
- anxiety & depression
- grief & loss
- stress & burnout
- trauma
- life transitions
- relationships & family
- neurodiversity
- shame, perfectionism, and self-compassion
- infertility & pregnancy loss
- perinatal mental health (prenatal, postpartum)
- parental mental health (stress, burnout)
How I Work
I take a non-pathologizing, non-judgmental, strength-based, and compassionate approach to counselling that considers the whole person in the context of their unique life. I believe that each person has an inner self that is compassionate, calm, curious, courageous, creative, connected, and confident and that sometimes experiences of trauma, discrimination, injustice, pain, and life hardships can create protective beliefs, thoughts, and behaviours, that hide this inner self for the sake of survival.
I believe in dignity, respect, and justice for all persons. I welcome people of all identities to my practice and strive to create a safe-enough, inclusive, affirming, and welcoming space for all gender identities, sexual orientations, neurotypes, races, cultures, beliefs, and abilities. I am knowledgeable and experienced about working with differently wired, divergent thinking, neurodiverse folx.
I practice from an anti-oppressive, liberatory, social constructionist, and trauma-informed lens. My therapeutic interventions vary based on client needs and are informed by the following modalities:
- Trauma-focused therapies: Internal Family Systems (IFS), Somatic therapy
- Second-wave cognitive therapies: ACT, MBCT, DBT
- Relationship and family therapies: Bowen Family Systems, Level 1 Training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy
- Post-modern therapies: Solutions-focused, Narrative, Feminist

I know that sometimes the hardest step is asking for help. I applaud your courage to be here today and appreciate you considering me to walk beside you on journey through self-change. I can't promise it will be easy, but it will be worth it and I am here to be with you throughout your journey. I don't have all the answers - only you know what is right for you in your life. I do have a lot of good questions for you to consider to guide you to a truer version of yourself.
I'm not the right therapist for everyone. I offer a free 15-minute consultation for you to get to know me and decide we are a good fit for each other. From me, you can expect warmth and compassion. Sometimes I will listen empathetically, pausing you to ask questions or deepen the conversation. Sometimes I will challenge you to think differently, to identify emotions and body sensations, or to look deeper inside. Sometimes I will offer psychological information or assessments. Sometimes I will offer insights or new ways of looking at things. Anything I offer does not need to be accepted. You are the expert in your life, not me. You are in charge of our work. You can choose to change or stop our work together at any time.
I'm so looking forward to meeting you and hearing your story.
Warmly,
Shannon
