Welcome to my online psychotherapy services! I'm Semra, a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) and a member of the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA). I bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to my practice. I earned my Masters (M.A.) in Counselling Psychology at Yorkville University and completed my undergraduate in Pharmaceutical Sciences in pharmacy.
As a compassionate and dedicated psychotherapist, I offer online psychotherapy sessions in both English and Turkish via video and telephone to clients from Ontario to British Columbia. I also provide a valuable opportunity for new clients with a free 30-minute consultation. This free, confidential consultation will allow us to get to know each other, discuss your needs, and determine if we're a good fit. I am passionate about helping individuals navigate life's challenges, discover their inner strength and achieve personal growth. I provide a warm, empathetic, and nonjudgmental space where you feel safe to explore your thoughts, emotions, and experiences. Together, we will understand where you are now and, most importantly, where you want to be. I will support you to achieve your goals in your self-growth journey.
I have worked with diverse clients facing a wide range of issues, including anxiety, depression, stress management and burnout, trauma recovery, self-esteem enhancement, life transitions, anger management, behavioural problems, relationship difficulties and more.
At the core of my practice is the belief that everyone deserves a safe and nonjudgmental space to express themselves. This is especially true for individuals who may be experiencing poor mental health, which can manifest in withdrawal, anxiety, and depression. I understand that poor mental well-being can also impact physical well-being, and I am here to help you navigate these challenges without judgment. You are welcome to express all aspects of your being in this space. It is not necessary to maintain a positive attitude at all times. Experiencing feelings of sadness, anger, annoyance, frustration, fear, and anxiety is entirely understandable and acceptable. Possessing negative emotions does not classify you as pessimistic; it is being human.
Cultural humility and cultural inclusivity
I provide culturally sensitive therapy to individuals from marginalized and underrepresented communities, including LGBTQIA+ folx, immigrants, refugees, and those with intersecting identities. By integrating cultural humility, inclusivity, and intersectionality into my practice, I can create a therapeutic environment honouring clients' diversity while promoting healing, growth, and empowerment. As a bicultural woman in Canada, I recognize that loneliness, stress, and emotional strain can come with additional cultural pressures, relationship conflict, mental health stigma, and shame, as well as struggles with personal identity and purpose. Whether you're navigating systemic oppression, grappling with identity-related challenges, or seeking support for mental health concerns, I am here to offer affirming and empowering guidance.
Therapeutic Approaches
As an integrative and holistic psychotherapist, I offer a flexible and inclusive approach to therapy that honours the complexity of the human experience and empowers clients to cultivate greater self-understanding, resilience, and overall well-being. I believe in a client-centred approach, where each individual is respected as a unique person with their own strengths and struggles. One size doesn't fit all when it comes to therapy. Every person is exceptional and deserves to be treated with respect. I tailor therapeutic modalities and techniques for your unique needs to help you find self-acceptance, empowerment, and inner peace while fostering growth, resilience and transformation. I believe in compassion and empathy through a strength-based and holistic approach when assisting you in gaining access to your interior wisdom, fostering a closer relationship with yourself, and gaining a greater sense of self-worth.
I engage in evidence-based therapeutic approaches, including solution-focused, strength-based, compassion-focused, person-centred, trauma-focused, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Emotional Focused Therapy (EFT), EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy, narrative therapy and mindfulness-based techniques and psychodynamic principles.
Community Involvement
Beyond my private practice, I am dedicated to giving back to the community. I volunteer with local mental health and distress centre organizations to provide emotional support, suicide and crisis prevention and intervention.
