Counselling that is Right for You

I provide short term counselling and longer-term psychotherapy in Victoria, B.C. and online with many specialized services. You will find a private, safe, and confidential space to address your challenges and improve your life. I believe each person is on their own path to healing and growth. I provide a contained space in which your work of self-discovery, change, and growth can take place. My role is to support you in achieving the goals you have for yourself. 

Often people seek counselling to learn to manage stress and develop coping strategies, make important life decisions, understand and change behaviour patterns, and work on goals. Counselling can also help with mental health and addictions issues. Counselling can bring up difficult thoughts and emotions. By working with them in a safe and effective way, we open ourselves to greater meaning, freedom, and choice in our everyday lives.

CBT for Anxiety and Depression

Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is an evidence-based treatment that combines education, desensitization, and mindfulness. I offer short-term CBT treatment as a practical approach to anxiety and depression. This structured treatment provides you with knowledge and skills you can use on your own for lasting improvement with even severe symptoms.

 I offer support for generalized anxiety, specific phobias, obsessive thoughts and behvaiours, and panic disorders. Overcoming the symptoms of anxiety is often the first step in living a more full and authentic life. CBT is an approach that works for people experiencing mild or severe anxiety issues.


 
Junigan Psychotherapy

Jungian psychotherapy is a long-term approach to self-understanding and the unfolding of your unique personality. The overall goal is to deepen connections to self, others, and the environment. Each of us can learn to express who we truly are through connecting to the unconscious and actively expressing our capacities.

 Psychotherapy includes dreamwork, exploring unconscious complexes, developing a functional personality, and living a symbolic life. It is often unclear at the beginning of Jungian therapy what the path will be, and my role is to guide you through a deep process of self-exploration. Establishing and maintaining a connection to your own unconscious through dreamwork provides a powerful counterpoint to our daily conscious preoccupations. Through dreams, a more balanced orientation and attitude to the world can be developed.


 
Addictive Behaviours

Addictive behaviours take many forms in our contemporary world: substance abuse and drug addiction, eating disorders, self-harm, sexual compulsions, and technology addictions to the internet, gaming, gambling, and pornography. Addictions can destroy our relationships and derail our goals, and it can be confusing and frustrating when we continue in behaviours that we know limit our ability to live the lives we want. I offer supportive counselling and evidence-based approaches to treat and reduce harms from addictive behaviours. 

 

Stages of Counselling

While the early stages of counselling generally focus on reducing negative symptoms and taking incremental steps towards our goals, eventually we can learn how our challenges can be turned into unique strengths. My experience has been that through sustained counselling work, meaning, growth, and learning can come from a deep examination of, and a new relationship to, the things that cause us most difficulty.
