Sara Maurer, LCSW

Hi! I'm Sara. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and diabetes health coach living with  type 1 diabetes. I practice as a therapist in the state of New York and offer coaching to clients worldwide.

My Focus 
I have many interests within the mental health world, though my passions lie in treating PTSD and trauma, unhealthy behavior patterns, and coaching people affected by diabetes. I also love helping my fellow social work community through mentorship and professional development.
 
Me and My Approach
I’ve spent most of my adult life living and working in various cities around the United States and abroad. I'm passionate not only about travel, but in exploration - of the world, cultures, finding new pathways in our own backyards, and, most importantly, within ourselves. Throughout my travels, I realized that no matter where in the world we go, what we explore within ourselves is arguably the most important piece of our journeys.
 
I believe we all have the potential to better ourselves, and that growth occurs while exploring the root causes of issues - not just treating symptoms. I have a holistic approach, treating the entire person rather than a disorder or specific hardship. I view my clients as experts on their own lives and my role as the facilitator of change. I help address my clients' struggles while, equally importantly, maintaining areas of strength. 
 
I love providing tools and strategies to highlight strengths and challenge thinking patterns that make people feel stuck.
   
Career Experience
I've worked with individuals and families nationwide and abroad, specializing in trauma, behavior management, family systems, forensic social work, addiction, diabetes and stress management.
 
I’ve also worked extensively with adolescents with chronic behavior issues, which has taught me skills that are valuable in coaching parents and caregivers. My style is humanistic and solution-focused, aiming to reach resolution by exploring the inner self and uncovering pathways to change.
While in my Masters program, I traveled abroad to Rwanda, where I completed a field placement working with assessing needs of children reintegrating from orphanages into families.

Trainings & Experience
I'm trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). I have experience working with Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Schema Therapy and Internal Family Systems (IFS).
 
Cost 
Therapy
I charge $90/session for individual therapy and $105 for the initial intake evaluation session. All sessions are scheduled for 45 minutes unless discussed otherwise. Sliding scale payment options are available on a case-by-case basis upon request. If you are local to Rochester, NY, I also offer various group therapy options for $35/1-hr group.

Coaching
Individual coaching costs $80 for each 45-minute session and $95 for initial intake sessions. I also offer various programs for Life Coaching and Diabetes Health Coaching, including packages for families, caregivers, and couples.
