Being a Psychologist is deeply meaningful work to me. I feel honoured to participate in the powerful transformation of people's lives. Sometimes this happens through a big 'aha' moment, or the resolution of past trauma, and other times it occurs in smaller (but equally meaningful) ways, such as developing the ability to forgive, or discovering a new and more productive way of looking at the world.
In my counselling work, I come primarily from a mindfulness-based orientation, into which I blend a combination of empirically-supported counselling approaches such as EMDR and CBT. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a technique that can lead to the resolution of trauma, caused by such things as car accidents or abuse.
As a Registered Psychologist, my services are often partially covered by extended health care plans, such as employee benefits. It is best to inquire into your specific plan to understand the coverage you are entitled to. These are some great questions to ask:
- Do I have insurance benefits for mental health?
- How much coverage do I get each year?
