About Me

I don't know about you, but I have always been fascinated by people! Observing their interactions, thoughts, and perspectives captivates me. It’s intriguing to consider what shapes their behaviors and the complexities that lie beneath the surface. This curiosity about humanity has been a guiding force in my life, prompting me to explore deeper questions about identity and connection. And what better way to do so than to engage in conversation with others, create connection, and support those who might have lost that connection along the way.

Discovering Meaning
For a long time, I grappled with how to create meaning in my life. I embarked on a journey of self-discovery, examining my interests and identifying both my strengths and weaknesses. Understanding who I am and how I wish to contribute to the lives of others became essential in this process. Through reflection, I realized that I thrive in small, intimate interactions. I enjoy listening attentively, observing dynamics between people, and diving deep into conversations that reveal the richness of human experience.

As I have grown and earned life experiences, I've come to embrace values that are deeply important to me, such as (but definitely not limited to); accountability, authenticity,  belonging, diversity, integrity, humility, honesty, growth, kindness, knowledge, openness, personal fulfillment, wisdom, and understanding. These values not only shape my practice as a psychotherapist but also reflect who I am at my core. I genuinely believe that by embodying these principles, I can create a supportive and nurturing space for those seeking counseling, helping them on their own paths to self-discovery and healing.

Cultural Identity and Personal Understanding
I believe that one of my strengths is mental flexibility—the ability to consider various perspectives without imposing my own biases. This openness allows me to truly connect with others, as I seek to understand how they navigate the world. My experiences as an Asian-Canadian woman navigating the duality of my cultural identity have profoundly influenced this perspective. Figuring out which parts of each culture I belong to was a significant part of my journey. It forced me to confront and reconcile the differing values and beliefs from my heritage and growing up in a multifaceted city of Toronto.

The Path to Psychotherapy
This internal exploration helped me articulate my own values, giving me a clearer sense of identity. It was this realization that led me to study sociology, eventually narrowing my focus to social psychology. I became increasingly interested in the intricate web of human relationships and the underlying motivations that drive our actions. My academic journey culminated in a commitment to help others. I decided to become a psychotherapist, drawn to the opportunity to support individuals in navigating their own complexities. I understand that everyone carries their own unique story, shaped by culture, experiences, and relationships. My goal is to create a safe space where clients can explore their narratives and find their voices.

Tailoring Therapeutic Approaches for you

In my practice, I draw upon a variety of therapeutic approaches, including Trauma-Informed Care, Client-Centered Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Psychodynamic approaches. This eclectic mix allows me to tailor the therapeutic process to the individual needs of my clients. Each person’s journey is different, and I strive to meet them where they are, facilitating growth and healing through collaboration.

I take a holistic approach, tuning into the unique challenges my clients face. By exploring the themes and behavioral patterns that may be holding them back, we can work together to foster their growth. Whether they are dealing with anxiety, depression, relationship stress, or self-worth issues, I emphasize the importance of cultural competence in our work together. Understanding the cultural context of a person’s experiences is crucial for effective therapy, allowing for a deeper connection and understanding.

Witnessing Transformation
One of the most rewarding aspects of my work is witnessing clients discover their self-worth and overcome limitations. There is something incredibly powerful about seeing individuals embrace their authentic selves and navigate the world with newfound confidence. This transformation not only impacts their lives but also those around them, creating a ripple effect of positive change.

The Journey Continues

My curiosity about people and my commitment to understanding their experiences continues to drive me. Each client brings a unique story, and every session is an opportunity to learn and grow together. As I support individuals in their journeys, I remain mindful of my own growth and the lessons I learn from them. The beauty of this work lies in the shared humanity that binds us all, and I am grateful to be part of my clients’ paths toward self-discovery and healing.

In a world that often feels fragmented, my mission is to help others find connection—both with themselves and with those around them. Through empathy, understanding, and a commitment to cultural competence, I aim to foster an environment where healing and growth can flourish. As I continue to explore the intricacies of human behavior, I am reminded of the profound impact we can have on one another’s lives. By embracing our stories and nurturing our authentic selves, we can navigate the world with confidence and grace.
I look forward to connecting with you.
