Rick Defoe is a psychotherapist and is the sole owner and operator of Growth Counselling Services. With over 20 years of clinical experience working with individuals, children, youth, and families in various capacities, I have developed a genuine passion in helping people discover their pre-existing strengths and ability to overcome personal struggle and the inevitable pain that coincides with being human. Like you, I have been faced with my own struggles in life, thus, enhancing my level of compassion and empathy for my clients and their presenting difficulties while further appreciating the need to seek support and guidance toward personal growth, balance, and an overall sense of well-being. I consider myself to be extremely fortunate and I am privileged to work with people who have a willingness and the courage to express their vulnerabilities and share their story. For me, I believe this to be the most rewarding part of my work in addition to bearing witness to client change and progress from our work together.

Education and Qualifications
With a Masters degree in Counselling Psychology, a Bachelors degree in Social Development Studies, a diverse level of training in counselling and psychotherapy, and registered certifications (Certified Canadian Counsellor, Registered Psychotherapist-Q, and Registered Social Worker), I am able to offer you ethical therapeutic services as an experienced and qualified clinician that often produces positive change.

As a therapist, my first priority is providing you with a safe, comfortable, non-judgemental, and empathetic environment that is built on trust. True genuineness, respect, and a sense of compassion are grounded in my therapeutic style, thus allowing you to share your experiences and stories when ready. Growth Counselling Services does not see you as broken or damaged, rather, you are viewed as an individual with the strength and capacity to confront your expressed challenges with guidance, while progressing toward desired change and wellness.
I am an eclectic therapist who employs an integrative approach that allows for a variety of modalities to be utilized based on client need, comfort, and what works for you.
