Hi. I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor offering virtual psychotherapy across Canada.
I am Vancouver-based, and licensed with the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC) as well as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA), offering Telehealth counselling sessions Canada-wide.
EDUCATION:
o Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology (MACP)
o Bachelor of Theology (BTH)
I’ve been a practicing therapist since 2018, and have nearly 15 years of prior experience supporting individuals and families within church ministry settings, as well as in the health and mental health care fields.
AREAS OF PRACTISE:
o Anxiety
o Depression
o Self-esteem/self-image
o Anger Management
o Relationships
o Grief work
o Addictions
MODALITIES THAT INFLUENCE MY WORK:
o Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy
o Attachment Theory
o Bowen Theory & Family Systems
o Solution Focussed Therapy
o Cognitive Behavior Therapy
I help clients build healthier emotions and better relationships.
o Gain a deeper awareness and acceptance of your particular reality so you can heal, grow and tackle your goals.
o Identify and process your emotions in healthy, manageable ways
o Build secure, fulfilling and boundaried relationships with others
o Build a clear, committed and relationship with yourself … Who are you at your core? Accessing this important information helps combat things like anxiety and depression (as can be expressed through insecurity, indecisiveness, perfectionism, loneliness, lack of direction, etc.)
I play the role of a secure attachment figure, so you feel safe.
I’ve often told my clients that I am honoured to do this work because I get to really see people without the walls or defenses that most of us carry around in the world. Inside my counselling ‘office’ clients get to lay their defenses down and feel safe enough to risk being seen as they really are - fears, mistakes, confusion, pain, trauma. All of it gets to come to the surface so we can explore it (which can involve feeling and experiencing, in safe and measured ways). In many cases, we even get to rewrite the story around what has happened to us.
I am known for developing deep therapeutic relationships with my clients.
I believe therapy is not just about discussing the details of your life but rather it’s about creating a relationship with your therapist such that that very relationship acts as a secure context for healing. That’s why it’s important for you to work with a therapist you feel you can establish such a relationship with. I am compassionate, warm, empathetic, and boundaried (learning to be more of this every day!), and am truly honoured to be here for you.
I am committed to personal and professional growth.
I am committed to doing my own work - which means, while you and I are meeting together about your presenting concerns, my therapist and I are meeting together about my presenting concerns! I attend a peer supervision group each month where educated, ethical and trustworthy colleagues support each other to ensure that not only are we giving the best care possible to our clients, but that we ourselves are staying healthy; that we are pouring from vessels that are full, not empty. I also have regular one-to-one individual supervision. All of this part of the Codes of Ethics to which I seek to diligently adhere (BCACC and CCPA).
I can offer a Christian/faith-based lens.
While I don't offer 'Christian counselling' as a modality (see modalities I use listed above), I am a counsellor who is a Christian. I have a degree in Theology, and before becoming a psychotherapist spent 10 years in pastoral church ministry.
I offer 20-minute complimentary consultations.
If you are unsure about counselling, or unsure about how to get the help you need, book a complementary 20-minute consultation and we can figure out what the best next steps are.
