Who I am
As a certified EMDR therapist with an active Social Work license in Florida and Connecticut, I specialize in helping first responders reclaim their lives from the cumulative effects of their daily jobs. Emotions do not have to be your enemy. The emotional and behavioral effects you are having are normal and together, we can help you maintain relationships, your work, your family, and your life. I have been working in the field since 2006 in various capacities from outpatient treatment to inpatient treatment to in-home therapy. I have been called to help first responders stay on the path that was chosen for them. I am trained in various models of therapy as well as life-coaching depending on what you are specifically looking to accomplish with me.
Specializations and Memberships
I am trained in various trauma recovery models including EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), TF-CBT (Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), and CPT (Cognitive Processing Therapy). I am credentialed as a Certified Expert Trauma Professional. I am a member of EMDRIA (The EMDR International Association) and am on the volunteer list for EMDR Humanitarian Assistance Program. I am credentialed by the Center for Credentialing and Education as a Distance Credentialed Counselor (meaning I have gone through extensive training in providing ethical on-line counseling. I also continue to hold membership with the NASW (National Association of Social Workers).
Payment
I fiercely believe in your confidentiality which is why I am not on insurance panels. Insurance companies can request your record and keep the information. I give my clients the peace of mind knowing their information will not be stored in their permanent health record with insurance. I will provide documentation for you to submit to insurance for reimbursement, if you choose. I am also aware that depending on the job position of the first responder, attending therapy can mean losing your job or not getting a promotion. By not taking insurance, I am able to protect your job as our work will not be in your permanent medical record. Coming to therapy (or coaching sessions) is a big decision which should not be taken lightly. It would benefit you to think about whether lower cost or long-lasting treatment is what you are looking for. I am extensively trained and passionate about what I do, taking it seriously. Sometimes the right therapist for you is not the cheaper or easier option. My goal is to help you, which means helping you find a therapist that fits your style, even if it isn't me.
What it's like to work with me
I strive to make the therapy process encouraging and easy from the initial call. Nobody likes being caught off guard. I maintain structure with my therapy sessions and you are involved in the process all the way through from beginning to end. I routinely ask for feedback as well to make sure I am giving you what you need. I strongly believe the therapeutic relationship is the foundation of change in the therapy room. If at any time, you do not feel I am the right therapist, I will gladly offer referrals to other professionals. I also provide referrals to other holistic providers (for example, Reiki practitioners, nutritionists, massage therapists, and yoga therapists).
Web-based therapy
I offer on-line appointments through a HIPAA compliant web platform called Doxy.me. There are many benefits of on-line therapy including accessibility (access to therapy regardless of barriers such as transportation and childcare), anonymity, and adaptability to the client’s circumstances in life. On-line therapy, or E-therapy, or Teletherapy as it is also called is a legal and practical way to conduct mental health counseling for those who would not otherwise be able to access a therapist.
Call or email me today to determine if I am the right therapist for you. There is no obligation and I will help you find a more suitable therapist if I am not the right fit for you.
