My
name is Margaret Burton, as a therapist, my passion is making a difference in
the lives of others. I utilize a collaborative approach to therapy as I provide
care to individuals, couples, families and groups. I am experienced in treating individuals
suffering from depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress, self-esteem, autism,
substance abuse, adjustment disorders, to name a few. I am also experienced in working with
individuals and families that are currently living in or escaping domestic
violence, refugees, human trafficking or otherwise displaced. My goal is to help individuals to learn how
to appreciate the uniqueness of their personalities and discover new ways to
develop their potential, build progressive connections, foster positive and
healthy relationships, conflict resolution and problem solving strategies to
promote individual and interpersonal health.
By applying evidenced based techniques,
such as cognitive behavior therapy, (CBT), trauma focused CBT, Client Centered
therapy, Solution Focused therapy, Motivational Interviewing modalities and
Rational Emotive Behavior therapy, and by providing a safe nonjudgmental
environment, my clients are able to process their concerns in an open and
supportive setting. Together, we will
explore and identify negative thought patterns, recurring negative behaviors,
personalized triggers, and learn how to replace them with positive uplifting
thoughts, appropriate behaviors, and self- control. The focus is to help individuals develop the
tools necessary to resolve emotional, behavioral problems and disturbances, regardless
of the source, thus enabling them to lead a happier and a more productive life.
I am a multi-lingual, Pre-licensed
Professional Therapist with a Master’s of Science Degree in Clinical Mental
Health and Counseling from University of Bridgeport. I am fluent in English, Swahili and Kikuyu
languages. As a therapist, I enjoy
serving as a positive force in the lives of people who are in need and are
having a difficult time finding an alternative to their current situation. I am driven to help individuals gain insight,
clarity, thereby, developing the ability to change recurring self-sabotaging
thoughts and behaviors. As a therapist I will listen to you, teach you about
the problem, recovery and assist you to learn how to utilize coping strategies
that will result in significant reduction of symptoms of your presenting
problem, to improve level of your daily functioning.
When almost all seemed lost, instillation of hope
will offer a path back to a sense of possibility in individual’s lives. I am confident that if you are ready to change, I can be
the partner you need as I act as a guide on your journey. As we collaborate positive things can happen.
You may be able to regain your sense of self and positive outlook on life and
the future.
I look forward to serving you.
