Lynn Buell attended the Columbia University School of Social Work in New York, where she received a Master of Science in Social Work in 1987.
She completed her psychoanalytic training at the Seattle Psychoanalytic Society and Institute in 2002.
She was certified by the American Psychoanalytic Association (APsaA) in 2006 and the American Board of Psychoanalysis in 2016. She is a Fellow in Adult Psychoanalysis, American Board of Psychoanalysis.
She completed extensive training in child psychotherapy at the Seattle Psychoanalytic Society and Institute, the Anna Freud Institute in London and the Ryther Child Center.
She is a member of APsaA, where she co-chairs the Opera and Psychoanalysis Discussion Group and the Seattle Rainier Club, where she chairs the Literary Committee.
She has a particular interest in "gas-lighting,"; a communication pattern which can cause a person to doubt their perceptions and applied psychoanalysis to the arts.
