Lori is a clinical therapist that enjoys working alongside individuals
wanting to address everyday life concerns to those diagnosed with severe and
persistent mental illness. Lori has worked alongside clients with a wide range
of concerns including trauma, PTSD, depression, anxiety, relationship issues,
motivational challenges, parenting problems, hyperactivity, impulsivity,
opposition, mood swings, psychosis, paranoia and attention deficit
hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Lori has enjoyed success and special training
working with young people but also enjoys working with adults and elderly individuals.

Lori obtained a Bachelor of Science in Psychology with emphasis
in rehabilitation from the University of Central Missouri and her Master's of
Clinical Social Work from the University of Kansas.  She is a member of
the National Association of Social Workers and the American Association of
Christian Counselors.

Lori Collins began her career in behavioral health more than
fifteen years ago at an inner-city Community Mental Health provider.  Lori
has taught nutrition education coupled with cooking skills, community life
skills and headed up the Truman Medical Center food pantry with the assistance
of volunteers.  Lori has collaborated with clinical team members to assist program participants to live as productively and independently as possible.

After gaining additional credentials, she transferred to an acute care psychiatric
ward where she was able to serve on an interdisciplinary team and was able to enhance
her understanding of how to collaborate with a diverse clinical team
(psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, mental health therapists, recreation
therapists and community professionals) to prompt positive patient outcomes
back into the community.  After serving several years at an acute care
psychiatric facility, she continued her career with Truman Medical Center by
transferring to an outpatient counseling center affiliated with the hospital
where she obtained specialized training to work with children, but was able to continue providing therapeutic services to adults.

After several years of community mental health service Lori
transitioned to a group practice serving those that live in the more rural
areas outside of Kansa City, Missouri.  While Lori enjoys providing
therapy to those in rural areas, she is transitioning to private practice.

All this experience has enabled Lori to gain skills that permit her to
work with very diverse populations.  Lori is comfortable working with
executives, first responders, clinicians and individuals from all walks of life
- she believes diversity and an open mind helps keep her sharp.

Lori's counseling style is supportive, encouraging, interactive
and educational. Lori believes all individuals are worthy of respect and
compassion and that it is wrong to criticize others. Lori experiences
successful outcomes through use of evidenced-based research (tools that are
scientifically proven to help) in developing tailored treatment planning.

Lori's approach combines cognitive-behavioral therapy which is also called CBT
(how our thoughts impact our feelings and how our feelings impact our behavior)
with a systems approach (how things interact and impact one another) and client-centered approach (supportive/encouraging).

Lori also provides eye movement desensitization reprocessing (EMDR), trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (tf-cbt) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) to help address a variety of  issues.  Lori doesn't believe in cookie-cutter approaches to mental health and is capable of tailoring interactions and treatment planning to meet a wide variety of unique and specific needs.

Lori has been married over 30 years and have tackled all sorts of life’s challenges and successes with her husband and family. She considers herself very fortunate, resilient and enjoys giving back to my community.
Lori utilizes a holistic perspective and believes that diet, exercise, sleep and faith intersect which also helps her maintain a positive perspective.  In her free time she enjoys game nights, being outdoors ,traveling and learning new things.

It takes courage to seek change and even consider talking with a therapist. If you're thinking it’s time
to do something different,  reach out to Lori who is ready to help support, encourage and work with you so you get the tools you need to live a more fulfilled and empowered life.

Lori helps individuals obtain change one step at a time.
