Leah Heyman, LCSW, is a dedicated and compassionate therapist based in San Francisco, California. With over 15 years of experience in the field of social work, Leah brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to her practice. She specializes in providing therapy for teens (ages 15 and up) and adults, focusing on a wide range of mental health issues including anxiety, depression, trauma, substance use, disordered eating, post-concussive syndrome, and chronic illness.

Leah's approach to therapy is grounded in empathy and collaboration. She believes that each individual's path to healing is unique and therefore tailors her therapeutic methods to meet the specific needs of her clients. Her practice incorporates a variety of evidence-based treatments such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT)/tapping, mindfulness, and motivational interviewing.

Having originally hailed from Western Massachusetts, Leah moved to San Francisco in 2015. She has a strong academic background, holding a Master's in Social Work from Smith College School for Social Work and a Bachelor's degree in International Relations and Arabic Language & Literature from Connecticut College. Leah is an emdr certified clinician, trained in advanced techniques like EMDR 2.0 and the Flash Technique, and has received training from the Beck Institute for CBT.

Leah's therapeutic philosophy is heavily influenced by a psychodynamic and harm reduction approach. She creates a safe and non-judgmental space for her clients, allowing them to explore their inner experiences and work through their challenges at their own pace. Whether dealing with past trauma or navigating present difficulties, Leah is committed to supporting her clients in their journey towards self-discovery and emotional well-being.

In addition to her clinical work, Leah values the healing power of nature, laughter, and deep connections. Outside of her practice, she enjoys spending time at the beach with her dog, finding peace and solace in the natural world.

For those interested in working with Leah, she offers both in-person and online therapy sessions. She provides a free initial consultation to ensure that her services align with the client's needs and goals. Sessions are typically 45 to 60 minutes long, with extended sessions available as needed. While she is not in-network with insurance providers, Leah offers superbills for out-of-network reimbursement and has partnered with Thrizer to help manage insurance claims.
Leah Heyman is dedicated to helping her clients achieve greater self-awareness, resilience, and a sense of well-being. To schedule an appointment or to learn more about her services, visit her website at leahheyman.com
