I have been working with individuals, couples and families for over 20 years and can't describe the joy it gives me when the light bulbs flash, the cloud of depression breaks, or the anxiety finally stops calling the shots. Helping people gain hope and learn new ways of dealing with stresses and hurts is what gets me up in the morning.
I have seen time and again that people can heal and change, and I believe that you can, too. No, that's not a cheesy attempt at being a motivational speaker. That's based on experience of seeing clients have victory over problems, conflicts, weaknesses, and personal histories. It's been my experience that people have a lot more strength, wisdom, and insight than they give themselves credit for and I enjoy drawing on those qualities to help people to heal, grow, and thrive.
As a Christian, I believe that we are God's workmanship, created very carefully as distinct individuals with a distinct purpose. There are no accidents, and as my grandfather used to say about his grandkids, "there's not a klinker in the bunch." That applies for those who are sold out for Christ and for those who deny His existence. I love working with people regardless of their faith background (or lack thereof), meet them wherever they are, and don't proselytize or pressure.
My professional background includes experience in inpatient and partial hospitalization programs, hospice bereavement, college counseling, life coaching and adoption in addition to counseling in a private agency. I work with clients who are dealing with a variety of issues, including anxiety, depression, boundaries, self-image, grief, chronic illness, life transitions, lack of confidence, adult ADD, and mind-body health. I've been a Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Michigan since 1994 and am a member in good standing of the American Association of Christian Counselors. In addition to counseling, life coaching, and LLPC supervision in metro Detroit, I take coaching and some counseling clients who don't live locally but wish to have online or phone sessions.
