What I Am About:

Navigating through life's challenges can be very difficult to do alone. Relationships are complex and can create stress in life. Coping with problems by yourself can leave you to have feelings of loneliness and hopelessness. Are you feeling sad, frustrated or depressed? Do you have fears and concerns that are hard to work through alone? Have you noticed that you lack motivation for the things that once made you feel happy and accomplished? I believe that by reaching out and coming into therapy with me, by taking the risk and not over thinking it, I can help you over come depression, increase communication within your relationships, and give you tools for managing anxiety. Counseling those who are suffering with depression, anxiety, grief and loss, life transition issues and school performance, are areas of treatment I enjoy assisting clients with. Anger and stress management, parenting training, and communication skill development along with assisting to improve relationships with conflict resolution are a primary area of my everyday practice.

Specialties:

College students who are dealing with anxiety and lack of motivation regarding class attendance and school performance. Exploring study habits, skill sets, and emotional struggles. Aiding students with letters to Professors/Registrar; referrals to physicians when appropriate. Exploring medical and emotional problems can sometimes allow for medical withdraws vs. failing out of college.

About Me:

I have been in the field of counseling for over 15 years and am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, or what many call Therapist; earning my Master of Arts in Clinical Practice from the University of Chicago. I completed my undergraduate studies at Purdue University majoring in Psychology and Sociology. I am in private practice at Harmony Counseling Center, LLC, which is nestled in the woods off 4th street and Saw Mill Rd Lafayette, Indiana. My office is located in the Professional Suites Building on the 3rd floor in Suite 3100.

I currently counsel children, adolescents, and adults. I believe strongly in family preservation and am committed to helping families work through their differences in order to resolve conflict. I have the experience to see that sometimes couples struggles to understand one another, they lack the communication they need to survive stress that comes from various life challenges. I strive to assist couples to be more effective communicators so that they can better express their needs to one another. Communication skills, anger management, improving trust by increasing honesty, are the keys to working through tough challenges such as infidelity, anger issues, financial problems, substance abuse, career stress, and family responsibilities. I address and treat issues such as depression, anxiety, substance abuse, family conflict, frustration and anger issues with couples and individuals.

I have a special interest in treating college students and have quality experience treating anxiety, lack of motivation with school performance, and class attendance. I assist students by exploring with my clients new skill sets to getting themselves back on track. This assistance can sometimes save students the need of failing out of classes with their schools and help them be able to medically withdraw in order to turn their lives around.

Additionally, I treat adolescents and adults, as I have throughout my career, in the area of substance abuse. I have found that my treatment plans and style, to be effective in assisting my clients to maintain sobriety. I help those who desire change on their own and with court ordered treatment. I assist clients to begin a more positive and higher functioning in life.
