I am a registered clinical counsellor (R.C.C.) with the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors and, in many cases, can accept third party billing from your insurance provider. My rate per hour is highly competitive. In certain cases, I can offer a sliding scale fee for those who cannot afford my full fee. I believe that safe and effective therapy should be available to anyone who needs it. I also offer counselling in French.
Primarily, I work as a couples therapist, using Emotionally Focused Therapy. EFT is the most successful couples therapy currently available, with a success rate of 75%. Many therapists claim to be EFT based, but it is important for you, the client, to understand that there are different levels of education that a therapist must complete in order to become certified in EFT, master the model and truly call themselves an EFT therapist. I am working to aquire my certification, which means that I am nearing the highest level of mastering the model. This is a lengthy process, requiring a major commitment on my part. My goal is to offer the best EFT therapy available, which gives you the client, the best chance at saving your relationship with your partner. Beware, not all therapists who call themselves "EFT therapists" have aquired this level of expertise in the model. As a client, it is important for you to ask the right questions and be knowledgeable about the level of education your chosen EFT therapist has completed.
In therapy, I am warm, open, respectful, empathic, kind and direct. Many clients have told me that they feel safer with me than any other therapist they have been to. What a wonderful compliment this is! At times, I can also be lighthearted and humourous in sessions, which is also very well received. I believe there is always a place for humour in relationships; life can be so tough without it! I feel great admiration and respect for the couples I work with and have learned so much from them. I am so grateful to do the work I do.
As a therapist, not only do I work with couples, but I also work with individuals dealing with issues such as anxiety, family of origin issues, depression, low self esteem, loss of self, career change and many other issues that we all struggle with at one time or another. The models I have studied and use with individuals include: cognitive therapy, gestalt therapy, Satir therapy, dream therapy and visualization.
My office is very centrally located in the city of Vancouver and I offer office hours in the daytime as well as in the evenings. I offer counselling by skype as well, for those who cannot make it to therapy in person. My website, vancouvercouplescounselling.com provides details and more information about the type of therapy that I offer.
