Shonah Nykiforuk is a Registered Professional Counsellor Candidate. She offers virtual session throughout British Columbia and plans to offer in office sessions in Princeton and Penticton. Contact shonah@incentivecounselling.ca or call (604)21-4795
Shonah is a Registered Professional Counsellor - Candidate, graduating from the Kelowna College of Professional Counselling with a Diploma in Applied Counselling, Specializing in Addiction Counselling. Shonah's drive to become a counsellor stems from her personal experience with a loved one's struggle with addiction. From this experience Shonah desires to connect with those who are overwhelmed with a loved one's addiction and desire to improve their functioning and relationship with the addict.
Shonah's counselling approach includes Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Person Centred Therapy, Choice Reality Therapy and Family Systems. Though these terms can sound confusing, from a client perspective they work together to meet the client where they are at and how their environment, thinking and relationships are affecting their level of functioning. Through collaborative sessions, Shonah and her clients work through these approaches to better the client's level of functioning and quell symptoms related to depression, stress and anxiety.
Clients who see Shonah can expect to be heard, empathized with, provided an environment to explore their thinking and feelings without judgement, and collaborate on a plan to improve functioning through healthy coping mechanisms and elevated thinking. Shonah also welcomes any client who may be struggling with depression, anxiety of varying sorts, grief and loss, relationship struggles (whether friend, family or partner), and difficulty in life transitions, which may include physical moves, educational and career changes or stages of life transitions.
