Born and raised in New York City, Debra moved south in search of warmer weather and new adventures settling in Atlanta in 2001. Debra became curious about human behavior from reading the psychology textbooks of her cousin who was in college at the time. An avid reader at a young age, Debra became fascinated with the theories of Freud, Jung and Skinner. Her natural curiosity and love of learning made her a very successful student. Debra earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Iona College. As an undergrad, Debra had the opportunity to intern and then be hired at a B. F. Skinner early childhood education program. She earned a Master’s Degree in Liberal Studies with concentrations in Women’s Studies and Criminal Justice. The title of her Master’s Thesis is “Present Does Not Mean Participating: The Impact of Mandatory Minimum Sentencing on African American Women.” Having worked in the field of behavioral health for a number of years in addiction treatment and for a company contracted with the NYS Department of Corrections, Debra decided to continue her education. She completed a Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Human Services with a concentration in Addiction. Her Dissertation titled “The Ethics of Self Care: Burnout Among Substance Abuse Professionals” serves as the basis for one of Dr. Dantzler’s signature talks. Most of her career has been in the non-profit arena serving indigent men and women that have the disease of addiction. Dr. Dantzler started her private practice 3d Psychotherapy in 2010. 3d Psychotherapy LLC is a boutique private practice located in downtown Decatur. 3d Psychotherapy LLC works with friends and family members who are affected by the disease of addiction by challenging their limiting belief of “If only…” 3d Psychotherapy LLC also works with LGBTQ Millennials to individuate and find their own authentic voice by helping them answer the question “Can I?” Dr. Dantzler is a person-centered therapist, author, speaker, and trainer. Dr. Dantzler is a dynamic change agent for the human experience. Dr. Dantzler has dedicated the past 20+ years to working with individuals at various stages of personal growth and transition. Dr. Dantzler is a National Certified Counselor, a Master Addiction Counselor and is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Georgia. She has worked in a variety of clinical settings, including intensive outpatient, residential treatment, criminal justice and community based services. Debra enjoys, yoga, kayaking, comedy and classic R&B music. She lives in Stone Mountain with her boyfriend and her dog Nala.
