Ms. Cynthia A Henrie, MFT, BCETS, CATSM is a Feminist Therapist who specializes in helping women, teens, and trauma survivors. She is a Board Certified Expert in Traumatic Stress and is Certified in Acute Traumatic Stress Management through the American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress. In addition, Ms. Henrie is the founder of the Los Angeles Trauma Therapy Specialists, a group practice of psychotherapists who are dedicated to helping trauma survivors.
Ms. Henrie was educated in feminist theory, multiculturalism and gay/lesbian/transgender issues through Antioch University of Los Angeles. She graduated with her BA in Liberal Arts and her MA in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University with a focus on Adolescence and Feminist Theory. She went through a 1 year training program in the practice of Sandplay Therapy and completed the psychotherapist training program through the International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation, which granted her the ability to be recognized as a Trauma Specialist. Ms. Henrie is trained in both Part I and II Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Training, enabling her to utlizie EMDR as a form of treatment for trauma and other kinds of issues. Ms. Henrie is trained in somatic forms of treatment for trauma and utilizes many forms of therapy in working with her clients.
Ms. Henrie specializes in helping women, adults, teens and their families. She works with women's issues, life transitions, life crisis, trauma of all types, adult survivors of childhood abuse, sexual abuse, incest, rape and sexual assault of both males and females and victmis of violent crimes. She has over 20 years experience helping gay, lesbian, bisexual, questioning, and transgender, intersexed, gender queer and HIV+ youth and adults. Ms. Henrie has been on multiple panels, been asked to do multiple presentations and conferences on topics of childhood abuse, trauma, working with gay & lesbian youth, helping transgender youth and adults and sexual abuse/assault of males vs. females.
Ms. Henrie utilizes a variety of different treatment modalities, including talk therapy, art, creative and sandplay therapies, EMDR, TAT, Developmental Needs Meeting Strategies, Bibliotherapy, Sand Therapy and some play therapy. Ms. Henrie also utilizes a variety of theoretical orientations depending upon the needs of the client. Her focus is Feminist Therapy and Depth Therapy approaches, especially Human Existential, Rogerian, Object Relations, Ego State Theory, Cognitive Therapy, some Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, and at times Solution Focused techniques.
Ms. Henrie has three offices. One is located in Mt. Washington, which is in Los Angeles near Pasadena, Glendale, La Canada, Montrose, downtown Los Angeles, Burbank and Eagle Rock. The other office is in Santa Monica, close to the beach, Third Street Promenade and the Santa Monica Pier; and a third office in Long Beach. She has four therapists she works with who are a part of the group practice and she supervises therapists in their internships.
