You’ve already taken an important step and are looking for help. I will provide you with understanding and support while you do the necessary work to create a life that is more fulfilling. I work with individuals and couples and can help to bring more meaning and intimacy to your relationship.
My office is a place of comfort. Patient’s frequently comment on how peaceful it is to be here. I utilize aroma therapy in session to help reduce your stress and to provide a sense of peace and order in what feels like a chaotic life. The time that we spend together is solely focused on you and your needs.
I have a Master’s of Arts in Counseling with a specialty in Marriage, Couple and Family Therapy. Additionally I hold a post master’s certification in Play Therapy. While I have substantial training I also value my own life experiences that led me to become a therapist. I draw upon my education, experiences and intuition to bring a richness and depth to my work as a therapist.
You will benefit from my knowledge as I am a life long learner and stay up to date with current methods and evidenced based techniques taught through on going trainings, books and lectures. I also have great respect for my current and past clients and what they have taught me through our meaningful work together.
There are many presenting issues that might bring you to counseling. Finding a therapist that you can connect and build an alliance with is very important to your success in therapy. I work very hard to create a relationship that will provide you the safety and warmth that you need to explore your experiences. I am very comfortable earning your trust and working at your pace. Patients frequently tell me that I know them better than anyone and that they feel how much I care.
I subscribe to Carl Rogers’ theoretical orientation. He believed that in order for a person to grow they need an environment that provides them with genuiness (openness and self disclosure), acceptance (being seen with unconditional positive regards), and empathy (being listened to and understood). If those things are given to a patient that creates the framework in which healing can take place.
I use different treatment modalities, depending upon which is appropriate for your circumstances and for you personally. Empathy is the primary tool used to give you the safety you need to explore your inner world while we begin to understand and process your experiences together. I offer insight and strategies to help you create the relationship you desire and possibly never had together.
I utilize an attachment-based perspective in my counseling approach. Additionally, this approach is proven to be beneficial when treating individuals or couples who have experienced traumatic events, infidelity and a variety of difficult life experiences; leaving you feeling isolated from the meaningful connections you desire. When needed, I draw upon resourceful strategies like utilizing sand tray to gain insight into patient’s unconscious processes.
My specialty is in working with highly distressed couples. I utilize evidenced based techniques in my work with couples to help them process through relationship ruptures and attachment injuries and heal from past wounds. Furthermore, I give you tools that we work with in session so that you begin to gain an understanding of what you need to do to move forward in your life. Eventually this translates into success between the couple outside of session.
My work with couples is based on the work of Drs. John and Julie Gottman (The Gottman Method) and Dr. Sue Johnson (Emotion Focused Therapy). Most couples wait approximately 6 years after the point in which they originally needed therapy before they come in. Don’t wait any longer if your relationship is in trouble or feels hopeless.
I offer a sliding scale fee to help you access the quality services you need. If you have insurance I will provide the appropriate receipts to you for submission to your insurance company. I’m considered an out of network provider.
Additionally, I work unconventional hours providing evening and weekend appointments in addition to daytime sessions. For your convenience I am also available for phone or video sessions. I look forward to meeting you and learning more about your counseling needs. Please contact me so we can begin creating a life in which you Thrive.
