Set within the tranquil shadows of the beautiful Sierra Nevada Mountains, Center for Hope of the Sierras offers an intimate, home-like atmosphere where individuals ages 16 and older can receive comprehensive treatment for eating disorders and related concerns. At Center for Hope, men and women who are battling conditions such as anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge-eating disorder, and body dysmorphic disorder can rediscover a renewed sense of hope as they overcome distressing symptoms and behaviors. Additionally, Center for Hope provides treatment for individuals who are suffering from co-occurring mental health concerns and substance abuse issues, allowing for healing to be achieved on all levels. Furthermore, Center for Hope is proud to be one of a very limited number of treatment centers in the country that offers specialized programming for individuals who are suffering from diabulimia.
Center for Hope’s 10-bed residential program offers intensive, individualized treatment that marries the comforts of home with excellence in clinical care. Here, clients have access to 24-hour nursing care, a full team of medical professionals, including a medical internist and an endocrinologist, a doctorate-level dietitian and nutrition therapist, licensed therapists, and highly skilled support staff. Center for Hope’s proven track record of success is demonstrated through their integration of dialectical behavior therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, equine therapy, solution-focused therapy, and movement therapy. Additionally, clients benefit from supported meals that are prepared by a skilled chef. These meals are monitored by the knowledgeable and caring staff members as clients learn to develop healthy eating habits, refrain from dangerous eating behaviors, and formulate confidence in their abilities to properly plan and prepare meals in the future.
Within the residential program, clients have access to a number of therapeutic interventions, all of which are tailored to meet each individual’s unique needs. These interventions include individual therapy, group therapy, and medication management services when necessary. Experiential therapies are also a large component of the treatment provided at Center for Hope, with clients having the ability to engage in cooking classes, Reiki, Yoga, equine therapy, music appreciation, and creative expressions.
In addition to residential treatment, Center for Hope of the Sierras also supplies partial hospitalization programming (PHP) and intensive outpatient programming (IOP) for individuals aged 14 and older at a nearby offsite location. These programming options can be used a step-down level of treatment for individuals who have completed care in the residential program, or as an initial programming option for clients whose needs do not warrant the intensity of residential care.
The fundamental tenet of treatment at Center for Hope lies in the concept of intuitive eating. The staff strive to help clients learn how to embrace the ways in which food helps to fuel their bodies as opposed to seeing it as something that is negatively impacting their lives. Clients work closely with staff members as they work towards overcoming the diet mentality and gain an appreciation for how healthy nutrition can help them respect their bodies and honor their health. The ultimate goal lies in helping clients become intuitive, mindful eaters, aiding them in developing the increased self-confidence that is necessary for lasting healing.
