I'm a Registered Nurse and former arts teacher.

I loved both of these careers, but later in life I studied to become a therapist because I have a knack for listening and a deep compassion for my fellow humans and their suffering.

I know from personal experience that painful life events and our own self-defeating thoughts can overwhelm us and keep us from living the kind of lives we'd like to live, enjoying new experiences, having good relationships with family and friends, and finding a path in life that suits us.

I help clients gain the confidence to take responsibility for their own mental well-being, but absolutely without any self-blame, or feelings of shame about their own failures or perceived inadequacies. Sometimes, we carry these feelings of unworthiness from childhood all the way into adulthood, without even realizing how they are complicating our lives and keeping us stuck in places we don't want to be.

I have lots of therapeutic "tools" and I work with all my clients to discover what would serve them best at any given moment in time. For some, talk therapy - being heard and their pain recognized - is what they need. For others, cognitive behavioural therapy can help create new, productive and even life-changing habits, often in a very short time.

I've also practiced meditation and mindful living for over 25 years, which is another approach I love to explore with clients who are interested. In my experience, mindfulness practices help create calm and bring clarity to a confused or overwhelmed mind. They can be extremely useful in staying grounded when anxiety strikes or preparing for sleep. I sometimes like to offer clients somatic exercises which help focus the mind and relax the body because I truly believe that mind and body are connected, as research has proven.

Because of my medical training, I also have insight into chronic health conditions, including pain, and many clients find my understanding of these and other health matters useful in therapy.

As a musician, I know the issues that Creatives face in today's complex media landscape. and I can help with climate crisis anxiety", an issue that particularly resonates with me.

I was educated at the University of Western Ontario, the University of Toronto, and the University of New Brunswick. I further my therapeutic expertise continuously by studying new modalities of treatment and reading the most recent research in my areas of expertise.

I know that the idea of starting therapy can be intimidating, but the benefits are worth the initial discomfort. It's a journey that you won't be taking alone.

It would be a privilege to work with you and support you in meeting your goals or in just feeling better.
