Dr. Giordano was born in the Bronx, NY in 1965. Before he
started college, Dr. Giordano owned and operated two businesses (general
contracting/finished carpentry, & catering) in New Jersey. His sister
Maryann died in 1986 after a four and a half year struggle with cancer. After
Dr. Giordano’s last treatment for brain cancer in April 1990, he began his
undergraduate studies in psychology. In December of that same year, he met
Jeanne Ann Rofrano, who became his bride in July 1994. She became the mother of
their children, Maryann in 1996 (the year he earned his Masters) and Anthony in
1999 (the year he earned his Doctorate). These and many other experiences help
Dr. Giordano understand first hand the impact of living with and losing a
terminally ill sibling, the effects of losing a child on parents, being
diagnosed and treated for cancer, and the challenges related to marriage,
raising children, and caring for aging parents.
Dr. Giordano is a State Licensed, and Nationally Certified
Counselor offering independent clinical counseling services after many years of
providing counseling services in academic medical centers and conducting
clinical research. He holds a Masters of Science in Behavior Analysis and
Therapy , a doctorate in Rehabilitation (RhD), completed a post doctoral

licensed as a professional counselor in the state of North Carolina (LPC
#5096), and is Board Certified as a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC
#215987). Also, the International board of Christian Counselors has certified
that Dr. Giordano meets their stringent standards for excellence in Christian
Counseling by recognizing him as a Board Certified Professional Christian
Counselor (BCPCC #0063). Dr. Giordano was among the first 100 BCPCC within this
international community of Professional Christian Counselors.
Dr. Giordano earned a Masters of Science degree in Behavior
Analysis and Therapy from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale (SIUC) in
1996 and a Doctor of Rehabilitation (RhD) from SIUC in 1999. Dr. Giordano
completed a post-doctoral fellowship in human behavioral pharmacology and drug
addiction from the University of Vermont (UVM) in Burlington in 2001. In 2005,
the North Carolina State Board conferred his Licensed Professional Counselor
(LPC) credential: license number 5096. In 2006, the National Board of Certified
Counselors recognized Dr. Giordano as having met high standards in his
training, experience, and performance on the National Counselor Examination by
recognizing him as a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC # 215987). Finally,
the International board of Christian Counselors has certified that Dr. Giordano
meets their stringent standards for excellence in Christian Counseling by
recognizing him as a Board Certified Professional Christian Counselor (BCPCC
#0063). Dr. Giordano was among the first 100 BCPCC within this international
community of Professional Christian Counselors.
In addition to his academic, research and clinical training,
Dr. Giordano’s life experiences provide him with first-hand insight and
compassion for people who have experienced the trauma of life threatening
illness, death of children, caregiver stress associated with chronic illness
(e.g., diabetes, pain), Alzheimer’s disease and marrital problems requiring
counseling.
At the Durham VA Medical Center, Dr. Giordano served as a
counselor and study coordinator at the Durham VA for a clinical trial treating
veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan with Post Traumatic Stress
Disorder. Dr. Giordano has held an Assistant Professor appointment at Duke
University Medical Center Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences from
2001 through 2007. At Duke he served as Principal Investigator on two National
Institutes of Health-sponsored clinical trials studying (1) smoking cessation
among adults dependent on illicit drugs, and (2) adults with chronic low back
pain.
He has provided individual, and group counseling services
for a variety of mental disorders since 1995. Over the course of his
professional training at SIUC, UVM, and his experience at Duke University, Dr.
Giordano has worked in a variety of inpatient and outpatient settings and with
a variety of client populations including adolescents, young adults, adults,
families, and persons with chronic pain, mental illness, acquired brain injury,
and substance use disorders. He has ample experience and a particular interest
in treating individuals with anxiety disorders, mood disorders, impulsivity
disorders, insomnia, addiction, chronic pain or marital problems. Christian

standing in the Society for Christian Psychology, the American Association of
Christian Counselors, the Christian Care Network, the Association for
Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies, and the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.
