Leigh Quesnel, Ph.D.

Leigh Quesnel View Specialties

Hello and welcome! Here is a little information about Dr. Leigh... that’s me!

My wife of 40 years, Barbara and I moved to West Kelowna from Winnipeg about a year ago.  We came to this lovely part of Canada not to retire but to enjoy the magic of British Columbia. Which we are doing with gusto!

I have maintained an active clinical practice for 40 years and plan on continuing to do so here in Kelowna and West Kelowna. I am not however, sure where the 40 years went.  I expected time to pass, I just didn’t expect it to go so quickly.  I am certain there is a lesson in that!

On a more serious note, my focus is pragmatic, and client centerd with an accent on problems solving and moving forward gently and respectfully towards a healthier and happier life process.

As we all know, both nature and nurture are involved in all our life processes.  For this reason, I come to my practice from a perspective that integrates neurological processes and learning theory.  An evidence-based approach applying the very best of cognitive and dialectic behaviour therapy strategies.

Over the years I have spent significant time working with the Canadian Forces, the RCMP, many local police, as well as paramedic and fire fighting groups. This experience provided me with significant knowledge of the functioning of these organizations and a ready understanding of the challenges their members face. I look forward to working with the members of these organizations here in BC.

I have also worked with several First Nations communities over the last twenty years.  This has been a fruitful and rewarding aspect of my work and I also look forward to working with these communities here.

Lastly, my practice includes cognitive and psychological assessment.

While all this may all sound a little clinical, it is brought together as I noted earlier, in a client centred way that comes from many years of living, learning, and practising. It is a process couched in the understanding that we all have challenges, and we all need a little help, support and understanding from time to time.

If that sounds like something that might be useful for you, please be in touch!
I would be happy to meet with you in person, virtually or a combination of both.

Beyond my clinical practice I have been an organizational consultant for well over 30 years.  During that time, I have worked with small and large organizations in both the public and private sector, nationally and internationally.   I have served numerous federal and provincial government departments and crown corporations.  In the private sector, I have worked with several large service and manufacturing enterprises.

In this aspect of my work, I conduct workplace wellness assessments, harassment investigations as well as critical incident debriefing sessions and that from a trauma informed perspective.

I also develop and deliver training sessions in a variety of management areas from leadership and workplace wellness to managing the challenges of the complex environment of business. I integrate the most recent academic thinking and best practices to yield novel, well thought out and pragmatic solutions to the many dilemmas presented to us by a complex, rapidly and unpredictably changing world.

Finally, I have a Ph.D. in psychology and have lectured in the faculties of psychology and commerce at the universities of Manitoba and Winnipeg.

I speak French and English fluently and work regularly in both languages.
