HAVING SPENT MANY YEARS in the business world, mostly
in high tech, some time ago I decided to pursue an old dream and follow
a path to become a Marriage and Family Therapist. Returning to graduate
school, I obtained a master’s degree in counseling psychology and then
achieved a Doctor of Education, also in counseling psychology. I’ve now
been in the practice of psychotherapy for over two decades.
Previously, as a county mental health clinician in northern
California, I worked with severely emotionally disturbed children in a
school setting. For several years after that, I provided counseling and
case management services for adults diagnosed with a mental illness who
were involved in the criminal justice system as part of a community
program designed to keep them out of jail or prison.
Now, in my full-time private practice, I see adults and couples,
employing effective telehealth sessions. My focus is on such issues as
grief and loss, anger, depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress
disorder, communication concerns, impulsivity, parenting, sexuality, and
gender identity.
My therapy style blends psychodynamic, schema therapy-based,
and cognitive-behavioral (CBT) approaches built on a foundation of
real-life experience and compassion, with a touch of humor thrown in for
good measure. I am a member of the California Association of Marriage
and Family Therapists, The World Professional Association for
Transgender Health (WPATH), and the International Society of Schema
Therapy (ISST).
