Hi! My name is Dave, and I am a Canadian Certified Counsellor through CCPA. I value care being offered from a holistic perspective as I have dealt with a health journey of navigating a diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis. I believe health incorporates many facets, and it is useful to collaborate with many health professionals to support our complex systems. I have found this unique perspective supports how I can journey with people who have/had to approach the idea of what dysfunction could include. Additionally, I believe in the connection between trauma and health, as has been observed in my own life and for my clients, too. An approach that has been useful in dealing with this is EMI (Eye Movement Integration). EMI shares similarities with EMDR but focuses on more movements and Smooth Pursuit Eye Movements (SPEM), which allows an opportunity to follow the client’s pace. I am currently finishing becoming a Level 1 EMI practitioner.

I consider it a privilege to walk alongside clients as they navigate the uncertainties of life, like dealing with a perceived or a real loss of ability/identity, for example. I aim to be client-centred by collaborating with clients to establish a realistic goal. I strongly believe clients are the experts in their own lives while recognizing that I also bring expertise, so let’s collaborate to find an achievable solution. I draw on influences from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Solutions-Focused Therapy, and Narrative Therapy. Overall, I wish to create and function from a nonjudgmental stance influenced by empathy and compassion. My gentle curiosity influences my approach, and I have found this useful in supporting clients.
I have a strong commitment to supporting clients by being non-judgmental and compassionate as I work with clients.
