I use a solution-focused approach to counseling where we start with 3 goals. These goals are things that might help improve your distress in the best way or shortest amount of time. From there, we dig deeper and figure more things out. I start with a goal first, because sometimes we just need something to change first. But in the end, it is best if we really talk, so we can potentially prevent the same distress from occurring in the future.
