Depression can be sadness but also can be lack of motivation or energy to do life leading to low self esteem. We can work together to strategize ways to improve motivation and energy. We will examine you thoughts and beliefs as related to your depression to see if they are contributing to your lack of motivation and poor self esteem. As your energy and motivation improve, self esteem may also improve. Finding the energy to engage life can decrease depression symptoms.

Although we all experience times of stress, sadness and worry, a more chronic struggle with depression and anxiety can significantly impact an individual’s life. The feelings of isolation and fear that accompany these can leave a person feeling hopeless, scared and overwhelmed. Here at Relfections Counseling of Denton we strive to help each client work through these struggles and regain healthy control through a combination of cognitive behavioral techniques, family systems perspective and an accepting and non-judgmental therapeutic relationship.

If you live with someone who is depressed and see their day-to-day life, you may be confused and even afraid at times. And if you have never been depressed yourself, you might have a hard time imagining what it feels like. You may not know much about the causes of depression, how it's diagnosed, or what treatment options are available. There are many things God can do through us to educate you about your loved one's experience with depression, but you also need to take care of your own mental health and well-being.

Depression counseling first starts with me providing a safe and supportive space for individuals to express their feelings and experiences without judgment. Clients will learn effective strategies and develop practical skills to manage their depressive symptoms. I utilize cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), which help individuals identify and challenge negative thought patterns and beliefs. By replacing these negative thought patterns and beliefs with more realistic and positive thoughts and beliefs, clients can experience a significant reduction in depressive symptoms and improve their overall well-being. I utilize other techniques, such as mindfulness, (EFT), and relaxation exercises.

Depression is part of our human journey of life - everyone experiences it in different ways and forms. Some depression is chemical/generational while some is situational/transient and can become chronic. Taking a look at what is underneath this reality helps to clarify the means to healing. Depression is not a four letter word or an emotion that cannot be discussed. Taking a look at the connection between thoughts, feelings and actions is powerful and can be an amazing tool for healing and change.

I work with a depressed nervous system by working with the body. Often we struggle to sleep, eat, or accomplish relatively simple tasks. Our bodies are stuck with the brake on. When our body thinks it is futile, out mind follows quickly thereafter and we begin to tell ourselves how pointless things are and how worthless we are. I work with the whole body to re-regulate the body to enable you to get back to a whole integrated self.

EMDR, Eye Movement and Desensitization and Reprocessing, has been proven effective for depression and anxiety. Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy has also been proven effective for Treatment Resistant Depression for those whom traditional pharmaceutical interventions (Prozac, Wellbutrin, etc.) were not tolerated or ineffective. We offer Ketamine Assisted Therapy under medical supervision with appropriate screening and post-treatment observation by an ER physician with over 20 years of experience with Ketamine administration.
