Depression is an interesting mood state in that there may be differing levels of intensity. What I have learned over the years is that before we have learned to speak, we are taking in everything around us through our sense of hearing, sight, and touch. Our brain processes the information when our brain isn't fully developed. We process the best we can and out of that we develop a core message about ourselves based on our early experiences. Many people develop the core message "I'm not good enough." Then we develop relationships with friends and intimate partners that reinforce that core message. We engage in negative self-talk.The great thing is, we can reprogram our message.
