Life ofen throws us curve balls, and at times it can be overwhelming. Depression is a common symptom that occurs when life becomes too stressful. I help clients understand the relationships among thoughts, feelings and emotions, and how they impact depression. Once we understand the thoughts that are impacting your depression we can work on ways to challenge the destructive thoughts, and help you decrease your symptoms of depression. In addition we can work on ways to help you cope with some of the stressors that are occuring in your life.

I work with a depressed nervous system by working with the body. Often we struggle to sleep, eat, or accomplish relatively simple tasks. Our bodies are stuck with the brake on. When our body thinks it is futile, out mind follows quickly thereafter and we begin to tell ourselves how pointless things are and how worthless we are. I work with the whole body to re-regulate the body to enable you to get back to a whole integrated self.

Depression can be debilitating. I will work with you on a plan that will be a multidisciplinary approach in order to bring you the greatest relief. We will explore any root causes of the depression to maximize your healing. If medical intervention is needed I can help with with the right referral sources. You do not have to suffer, there is much hope for depression.

I integrate a variety of treatments and models, such as CBT, DBT, Ketamine-assisted psychotherapy (KAP), and EMDR to provide clients with effective treatment options, to achieve insights that may have been elusive otherwise. Ketamine's rapid antidepressant effects can facilitate breakthroughs in therapy sessions, while EMDR can effectively process and reframe past experiences contributing to depression. Having a variety of approaches allows clients to delve into their emotional experiences and develop healthier coping mechanisms. Through these modalities, clients can experience relief from depressive symptoms and achieve long-lasting emotional healing and resilience.

There are several factors that contribute to childhood and teen depression such as problems in school, grief and loss, illness, bullying and problems with parents. In order to address the child’s needs, I will meet with your family in order to assess and understand the nature of the depression. As adolescents share their feelings about what they are experiencing in their lives, I will work with your child to reduce the symptoms of depression and strive to improve, self-esteem, social skills and help them to develop emotional problem solving skills.

EMDR, Eye Movement and Desensitization and Reprocessing, has been proven effective for depression and anxiety. Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy has also been proven effective for Treatment Resistant Depression for those whom traditional pharmaceutical interventions (Prozac, Wellbutrin, etc.) were not tolerated or ineffective. We offer Ketamine Assisted Therapy under medical supervision with appropriate screening and post-treatment observation by an ER physician with over 20 years of experience with Ketamine administration.

When depressed, it can be hard to find the motivation to get moving. It can be like a heavy blanket or fog is laying over you. The experiential work I offer with horses, allow a person to start to "move through" their depression. Sometimes just taking that first step can be the catalyst to taking many more steps. "How does a person complete a marathon?" ... "One step at a time." I help people develop the skills to run the marathon called life.

Depression is an interesting mood state in that there may be differing levels of intensity. What I have learned over the years is that before we have learned to speak, we are taking in everything around us through our sense of hearing, sight, and touch. Our brain processes the information when our brain isn't fully developed. We process the best we can and out of that we develop a core message about ourselves based on our early experiences. Many people develop the core message "I'm not good enough." Then we develop relationships with friends and intimate partners that reinforce that core message. We engage in negative self-talk.The great thing is, we can reprogram our message.
