I am fascinated by exploring and growing behaviors and patterns that make relationships work, while also creating a space to explore and process times that have been hurtful or potentially where someone has been left feeling betrayed. As a therapist, I am committed to creating a space that feels non judgmental and accepting as couples therapy typically brings with it many difficult topics of discussion. Navigating a relationship is no easy feat, even for people who have years of experience. When couples choose Melanie as their therapist, they get an advocate for the relationship--not to pick sides. Any coupling is the meeting of two cultures: two completely different people with completely different experiences, values, strengths, and ways to see the world. Melanie will be happy to point out areas that are strengths in your relationship, and help each person craft responses that yield communication instead of conflict. I have completed Level 1 training in the Gottman Method. I use this approach when working with couples. I begin with the Gottman Assessment, which consists of more than 300 questions. This assessment provides information such as relationship satisfaction, communication styles, viewpoints on whether you feel known by your partner, trust, infidelity issues, commitment levels, and much more. The assessment provides a roadmap of the journey towards improving communication and the friendship with your spouse.

I am passionate about helping couples navigate their issues and reach their shared goals, as well as helping increase effective communication and rekindle the love they share for each other. I am a strong believer in the power of having a good support system, and that starts with our spouse/significant other. Couples will benefit from having increased productive communication, as well as increased relationship satisfaction, if that is what they are seeking.
