Individual counseling may be oriented towards helping clients achieve their goals for their own personal development. The Master Designer created us as sexual beings and much of my practice is aimed at helping clients overcome sexual anorexia or the other end of that continuum, sexual addiction and/or pornography addiction (with the added markers of distress being present.) Sex Therapy from a Christian perspective is a large part of my practice.

Lake Austin Psychotherapy offers general psychotherapy via the narrative perspective of externalization from the problem. Additional subconscious processing with EMDR can facilitate cognitive narrative connections that allow for new, adaptive perspectives to emerge. While past experiences cannot be changed, the story we tell ourselves can always evolve.

In my role as a psychotherapist my role is to gently discover the problems that people come to me for, what they have done to change those problems and what they would like to see happen. I then help them understand the nature of their problems from the standpoint of their thinking, emotions and behavior. I teach people about the neurophysiology of the brain and how that relates to change. Through the use of illustrations, handouts, and metaphors I help them to see that the change they want is possible for them. I give them specific step-by-step directions about how to effect this change and encourage and coach along every step.

I focus on helping you make positive changes from the first appointment so you can progress quickly. Because each person and problem are unique, I do not require a minimum number of sessions; you can work at your own pace. I offer one-time consultations, short-term and long-term therapy, and block-intensives which are longer amounts of time devoted to resolving your issue as quickly as possible.

It appears that we tend to focus way too much time and energy on "right vs. wrong." This seems to only cause more confusion, indecisiveness, and other insecurities. I work with an entire person--the mind, emotions, body, spirit, relationships. I offer an alternative approach to traditional psychotherapy because sometimes we are stuck beyond our thoughts. I believe we are often stuck beyond how we think about something, but by how our body holds and remembers the experiences. After all, we feel the anxiety in our chest, shoulders or stomach. When we are depressed, we struggle to move, sleep, concentrate etc. I work to remove the block from wherever it is stuck. My clients come to me after years of ineffective therapy. They are looking for more than talking about their struggles or identifying how they think about them in favor of a change in living.
