If a counseling session is likened to conversing with a knowledgeable advisor on the doorstep of your home, psychotherapy can be like inviting that advisor into the “parlor” or “living room” of your inner world based on trust, at-ease-ness, and confidence in your advisor’s insight. My approach to psychotherapy is interactive and strengths-based, starting with cognitive (thought-based) or behavioral coping skills, and moving into awareness of family of origin themes and the impact of past trauma when needed to activate more enduring personal growth in the client.

Clients will get a better understanding of how their current behaviors/relationships are influenced by their past family, school, work, and history. I provide a safe environment for clients to examine if and how they are going to change to better their lives and increase their level of happiness. I utilize a variety of treatment methods and give challenging "assignments" to help clients realize their full potential and practice skills taught in sessions. The trusting relationship I build with a client in therapy is my best therapeutic tool as clients can then safely explore topic "usually" uncomfortable in the outside world.

When I work with clients individually, I provide a safe place for them to talk about their problems and move toward finding solutions that will make further treatment unnecessary. .It really shouldn’t be necessary for therapy to go on for years. I am very interactive with people, am a good listener and a firm believer that humor provides needed objectivity to promote treatment. Even though we are talking about personal problems, I examine the family and social environments to provide a context for the client.
