Marriage and Couples Mental Health in Whitby
Whitby, Ontario is a large town in Canada that has a growing population. In fact, the average population growth rate between censuses is close to 10%--this may be due to growing neighborhoods, new businesses, and better opportunities for the people living here. It is a typically healthy community with better schools than some neighboring communities.
One problem that this area faces, however, is high divorce rates. Unfortunately, 12% of the population is divorced. This could be because of mental illnesses that result with unemployment and financial struggles, as well as problems with children and spouses. On average, their statistics are worse than Ontario's overall marriage and divorce rates, with a higher likelihood for marriages to end in divorce within a certain period of time.2
Family Services and Assistance Programs
The Whitby Chamber of Commerce can help provide opportunities to those who need it, and can help individuals find jobs if they have been struggling with unemployment. They can be contacted at 905-668-4506 and there are frequent events that are open to the public which will help people find jobs, develop professionally, and many other things.3
There are also other services that can help families, such as child care centers that will help parents be able to succeed on their own as well as teach children important skills. The P.R.Y.D.E. Learning Centres Inc. works with children on a personal base to teach them things that will help them throughout their lifetime, as well as provides counseling for those children who have special needs. You can reach their St. Mark branch at 905-721-1758 or their St. Bernard location at 905-430-8598; both are located in Whitby.4
