Eating disorders may be common, but they are dangerous if left untreated. They are complex emotional issues that can be influenced by our family environment, relationships, school, career, and by the media. Eating disorders binge eating, purging, using laxatives, over-exercising, feeling guilty about food, over-eating, and obsessing about weight. Our therapists have years of experience in helping people deal with eating disorders. We will develop a treatment plan for you that will empower you to take control and free yourself from the problems. Our aim is to develop tools and resources to not just change your way of thinking and eating but also promote healthier patterns and behavior.

Emotional eating can stem from social expectations, family of origin rituals and gatherings, and negative self-talk. Emotional eating can lead to weight gain and health concerns. I use CBT, DBT and ACT to help clients learn to recognize emotional triggers that lead to eating behaviors when not physically hungry. I also help clients develop techniques to mindfully eat, resist temptation and learn to recognize when emotions are pulling at your puppet strings.

The two most common forms of eating disorders are Bulimia Nervosa and Binge Eating Disorder. The current research shows that two of the most effective treatments for these conditions are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Interpersonal Therapy. The other disorders are Anorexia Nervosa and Eating Disorder Not Otherwise Specified (EDNOS). The severity can range from mild to extreme whereby individuals experience irregular eating patterns, yo-yo dieting or at the other end can experience life threatening conditions. Eating disorders do not usually resolve on their own, they need professional intervention. It is my goal to help you overcome your difficulties with your eating disorder.
