Starting my second career in life, I had the benefit of a career counselor who guided me to not just a job but a vocation that I now love and enjoy. Through a psychotherapy coaching blend I can understand my clients and their particular desires in life and their limiting beliefs. I help clients with choosing post secondary and graduate level educational paths, job counseling, second career counseling, finding a career with greater personal satisfaction and retirement planning.

Your chosen career path is a reflection of where you want to go and what you want to accomplish in your lifetime. However, due to physical, mental, economic, familial, or emotional limitations, among others, it is possible that you may feel you are unable to work towards your desired career path. Additionally, it is possible that you may be unaware of what your career path might be. In career therapy, we will explore your interests, desires, strengths and challenges, your spirituality, education level and social, political or economical limitations, to discover what work might be meaningful, suitable and fruitful for you. We will then create a plan to work towards your desired career path.

Navigating our careers can be challenging and confusing. This process can become overwhelming, but with the help of a professional who is both compassionate and impartial, things can become more clear. Together we can explore areas of possibility for your future, and also work towards identifying and overcoming the emotional barriers that might get in the way of you reaching your career goals. Combining coaching techniques, with therapeutic techniques to regulate emotions, we can explore your professional aspirations and set out manageable steps to move towards them.

I can provide strategies for you to find new or different employment successfully. I'm not only a registered psychotherapist but I'm also a success coach. I have a PhD in leadership and policy and a background in business. I've had many jobs and careers from modelling, personal training, to a Bell operator and a Purolator driver. I've been in retail sales, and sold photocopies, PR, and software. I've been a teacher of primary/junior students, and professor in sales, and a professor in graduate education. I have owned a restaurant, and a tutoring company. I am sure I have missed something! I'm reinventing myself once again looking to be an author! Let me help you find your way!

Dr. Strauss offers career counseling through New Leaf Psychology Centre. In order to facilitate decision making, sessions will first assess your current skills, assets and interests. Your level of fulfillment at your current place of work, and obstacles to fulfillment will also be discussed. Potential career changes will be reviewed, with the goal of helping you come to a decision that you are comfortable with.
