Your chosen career path is a reflection of where you want to go and what you want to accomplish in your lifetime. However, due to physical, mental, economic, familial, or emotional limitations, among others, it is possible that you may feel you are unable to work towards your desired career path. Additionally, it is possible that you may be unaware of what your career path might be. In career therapy, we will explore your interests, desires, strengths and challenges, your spirituality, education level and social, political or economical limitations, to discover what work might be meaningful, suitable and fruitful for you. We will then create a plan to work towards your desired career path.

A career is more than just a way to pay the bills. Every person spends most of their life in their careers and the career satisfaction/non-satisfaction spills over to the person’s personal life, too. However, there are many variables that can lead to career dissatisfaction. It can be the environment, interpersonal relationships, the skills and talents required for the job, and ultimately the person’s view of the job. A successful career counselling helps the client to take a closer look at these variables and to tackle the issues that lead to an unhealthy career life. Ideally your job, career or occupation is a source of energy, meaning and perspective on life and money. It aids your journey through the shifting realities we now have on the planet. My experience over forty years of being a therapist is that the technical aspects of a career/job/position may be resolved by going through the typical mechanics of job searching. Through my Master’s degree I completed a double major in career and personal counseling. This unique training has helped me understand the impacts of personal well-being on career development and work performance and productivity. It also helped me understand how career development and/or employment satisfaction impacts on an individual’s well-being and on how they behave and interact with others. I have a PhD in leadership and policy and a background in business. I've had many jobs and careers from modelling, personal training, to a Bell operator and a Purolator driver. I've been in retail sales, and sold photocopies, PR, and software. I've been a teacher of primary/junior students, and professor in sales, and a professor in graduate education.
