My approach to anger management first teaches clients to become expert observers of themselves their triggers, risks and "buttons". Once this is done, strategies are developed to mitigate risk and experiment with alternate, healthy forms of expressing rage. Anger can be profoundly healing and revealing, as well as destructive. Sometimes deeper reprocessing work is necessary if the source of anger is extreme or rooted in early life, or marked by great suffering, humiliation, disgust or injustice. If impulse control is a concern, practical safety agreements in addition to DBT and affect regulation strategies can be imparted. Couples can learn ways to allow safe and healthy anger expression

There are many other emotions that bury themselves under our anger and impulsive reactions. Identifying these emotions can be the first step in developing emotional regulation. I have been trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). This form of treatment focuses on using Distress Tolerance skills, Mindfulness, Emotion Regulation and Interpersonal Effectiveness to manage intense and overwhelming emotions.

Anger is a normal and healthy emotion and we all get angry from time to time. However, when anger turns destructive and/or self-destructive and brings problems into your personal and professional life, you need to seek support to learn how to manage your anger better. In the process, you will learn how to relieve the symptoms and recognize the signs of anger, increase your confidence and self esteem level, enjoy stronger and healthier relationships with your loved ones and coworkers, learn how to express yourself and your emotions with confidence and without anger, and live more balanced life both mentally and emotionally.

Anger is a healthy emotion it is what we do with our anger that can create problems. I help clients look at their anger honestly and get to the sources of it. We explore what message is the anger telling the client. I help clients learn more effective and safe ways of expressing their anger. Often clients benefit from learning more coping skills as well. Relaxation techniques and self-care are an important aspect of learning to cope more effectively with anger.

Often those with anger management issues find themselves acting in ways that hurt themselves and those around them. Uncontrolled bursts of rage can frighten, alienate and harm those close to you. Get control over your moods and learn what is triggering your anger. Discover alternate methods for expressing your feelings so that you feel understood and listened to.

Anger is a secondary emotion, meaning that something else is usually going on, other needs may not be met. Assistance with Anger management involves actively listening to your story, experiences, expectations, and frustrations. I will help you learn coping strategies to effectively notice and avoid unecessary anger, better communication strategies to deal with others, and adopt a healthier outlook on life to provide more realistic expectations.

Anger can destroy everything in its path if we're not careful. But eradicating anger is not the goal, it's learning to anticipate and understand anger as a survival function and then gaining practical tools to regulate it and respond intentionally in life (instead of just reacting). Sometimes we may need to ask ourselves, "am I controlling my anger or is my anger controlling me?".

It can be difficult to control our emotions, especially in these challenging times. Anger can also be an expression of other emotions that are lying beneath the surface. Psychotherapy can help identify tools that work for you in learning to regulate your emotions, as well as approaching your anger with preventative strategies such as learning to recognize when you begin to feel angry, and regular activities that can help alleviate stress and build up your stress tolerance. You are not defined by your anger, and your anger doesn't control you. By learning to identify your triggers and the purpose your anger serves for you, therapy can help you make a shift bring more peace into your life.
