In contrast, my approach is to go to the root causes of addiction, so that you can disarm your triggers completely. Addiction is often driven by pain and self-defeating beliefs. Over the years, we've learned to run away from our pain by engaging in behaviours that temporarily change how we feel, but leave us feeling shamed and defeated. When you are able to learn ways to reduce and heal the root pain that drives addiction , triggers lose their power and you can live free of shame, back in control of your life!

Addiction can be a scary thing that is often surrounded by ambiguity and confusion: why do I continue to use when I know it is bad for me? Why do I want to use in the first place? I view addiction not just as a problem but an unhelpful solution to a different problem. Often, we turn to addiction to get away from something else. It is that “something else” that we would try to understand in our sessions. We will then work to find healthier ways of coping to replace the addiction.
