I help couples navigate difficulties, life transitions, and improve communication to develop smoother, happier relationships. Difficulties and life transitions can include death of a family member, job change, infidelity, intimacy, pregnancy, adoption, or birth of a new child. Communication can include showing affection, managing conflict, acceptance and forgiveness.

Relationships can be beautiful; they can also be stressful and conflictual. You may have a good relationship, and perhaps feel something is missing. Couples counseling includes communication skills, validation skills, DBT skills to understand each other's perspective, etc. We will explore your conflict styles and conflict cycles to understand patterns. In my practice, I frequently see couples in all stages of life. Some couples come in preparation for marriage, some early on in their relationship when problems first begin to arise, and some come who are on the brink of divorce. In each situation, I help them to assess the strengths and weaknesses of their relationship, to find commonality in their search for health, to learn the skills necessary to build a good relationship, and to make their connection all that they want it to be. I believe that every relationship can be improved if the individuals involved are willing to learn and to work toward that end. Love can be rekindled, and trust can be restored.

I help couples identify how they interact with each other, to see and understand their own patterns of behavior. Together we determine which patterns are helpful and which get in the way. We keep interactions which help, and substitute new interactions for those that interfere. Couples talk to each other in the sessions. We replicate familiar, frustrating situations which occur at home. New solutions found in the sessions are then practiced and applied at home.
