We live in a world where relationships matter; yet, relational experiences are as unique as they are personal. Often the impact of these experiences is not visible until there is division or disharmony in the relationship. Couples counselling helps to create clarity, restore unity, and build agreements between couples by providing them with the space, time, and tools to communicate and negotiate differing perspectives. Couples may also seek counselling as they move through the process of uncoupling. Whether couples seek to reignite, restore, resolve or refashion their relationship, counsellors seek to provide guidance, support, and remediation in order to achieve the desired outcome.

I have over 30 years of counselling experience, much of it spent in the counselling room with couples. I use humor and insight into the most common of our faults to help couples recognize where they are on the journey - so they can move ahead from where they are to where they want to go. Sadly, not every relationship will end in a happily ever after, but you can do much to learn how to set boundaries, how to detect and remedy communication problems, and how to reverse or at least protect yourself from destructive patterns learned in childhood or earlier relationships. Even if you are in a relationship that is dissolving there is much you can learn from the past to apply to a happier future.

Marriage and couples therapy can powerfully change not only your relationship with your partner, but transform your own personal struggles. Experiencing your partner as someone you can count on has emotionally been shown to make painful circumstances less difficult and improve personal health and well being. Most people really dislike feeling disconnected from their spouses, but don’t know how to rebuild a close, connected relationship. We might complain about the distance we feel from our parter, but have no sweet clue how to do anything different. Let me help you experience a deep sense of connection, vulnerability and intimacy in your relationship.

Are you and your partner stuck in unsolvable arguments? Does one of you tend to ‘demand’ more while the other shuts down and withdraws? Are you feeling less connected and actually adding stress to each other’s lives instead of reducing it? While frustrating, these are perfectly normal patterns of partnership and there is hope. I would be glad to help you untangle the knots, learning to team up together instead of entering battles over who is right. In doing so, we will unpack past traumas and patterns of behaviour, learning to better communicate and to be safely vulnerable in a way that stands your relationship on solid ground.
