Anger can be directed inward (depression) or outward towards others. We will uncover where in your body you feel the anger, how it affects your actions and feelings that it can generate. Will help you to label and express your angry feelings in a healthy and safer way eg. journaling, sports and being heard and feeling seen in therapy. Anger can be useful in some situations and can be a protection to some people. We will uncover together what your anger is like and what purpose it serves.

Anger can be used to inspire change, motivate achievement, and promote survival. However, it can also keep us from becoming the best version of ourselves and/or leave us filled with regret and a decrease in self-esteem. The consequences of unleashing anger can influence the course of our lives. When anger becomes detrimental to well-being, it is time to reset the thermostat. Liz believes this can be accomplished by approaching anger from different perspectives: exploring the sources, reframing mindsets, developing response skills, and building coping strategies. Generating growth in these areas can increase self-awareness, strengthen self-regulation, and empower meaningful pursuits.

Therapy for anger management is more than simply learning coping skills to control angry and sometimes aggressive impulses--although they are important. Anger is typically a secondary emotional response to something else, something much deeper that is working its way out through anger causing problems at work, school, play, and in relationships with family, friends, neighbours, and strangers. I can help you explore and process the underlying thoughts and feelings and find a place of calm and clear communication.

Anger often stems from feeling so many emotions all at once. You lose a sense of control. You go from 0 to 100 in a blink of an eye. By getting angry you’re attempting to regain control that’s presumed lost. But instead, you’re full of guilt and shame. Feeling angry and reacting in anger, is simply exhausting. I’ll help you learn how to regain control, in a healthy way.

Some people need to learn skills to learn to manage their anger. They need to learn how to delay gratification, how to distract themselves from angry thoughts, remove themselves from situations that are triggering them, etc. However, with over 30 years experience as a therapist I have found that often the problem is not so much managing the anger as answering questions like "Why am I so angry?" or "What about this situation is triggering my anger?" Talk therapy is ideally suited to looking into these questions (as well as teaching coping skills to handle the anger). If you have been told you have anger problems or are worried you might have anger problems consider calling for an assessment
