Anger is not a disease to be treated. Anger protects us when we perceive threat, mobilizing our capacity to protect ourselves and our loved ones from harm. Your amazing self-protective actions in the face of threat have meant that you have survived to be reading this. I don't know the story of your experience but I do know that anger is a natural human-animal response and that if you are struggling with angry outbursts and angry behaviour, it is likely because your nervous system has been overwhelmed at some point and needs some support to try something different. Of course you are angry, but anger doesn't have to take over. Through a somatic approach you can begin to have a choice.

Is your anger out of control? Anger is a normal, healthy emotion, when we have been mistreated or wronged. Anger is not the problem – it is what you do with it that causes problems. Anger becomes a problem when we are out of control, which can result in serious consequences. Psychotherapy and counseling can help you gain insight about your explosive episodes of anger. With a deeper understanding and self-knowledge you will have personal power over your behavior and anger management skills to keep your temper from sabotaging your life. Anger management takes work, but changing sabotaging anger gets easier with commitment and practice. The payoff can be better relationships and confidence.

Everyone gets angry. It is a natural emotion that makes up your personality. However there may be times when your anger becomes very difficult to control and it has negative consequences on individuals, families, and work environments. Learning how to consciously and unconsciously express anger is an important part of anger management. With counselling, Lesley aims to help individuals in St. John's identify triggers and replace negative behaviors with positive and manageable behaviors. Learning the difference between aggression and assertiveness is key within anger management.
